When I first listened to this song, I was intrigued by the guitar hookline, which transported so much emotion for me. But I was also a little bit shocked by the lyrics. After listening to the song for a few times, I think I captured the meaning of the lyrics. They are about how essential a mother's love is for a little child. And how traumatising the lack of this love is. What immense damage the lack of love at an early age does to the soul.

Wow. That just froze me. In 2000, my marriage imploded. I knew that I was not what society expected of me, but losing my family while I was on a very sensitive and intense path, my son was only two and a half years old, blew up my emotional inner life. At that time I also tried to understand the relationship with my parents, especially my mother. I had big problems with them. I saw much of my pain as being rooted in my mother and then this. Mutter. From Ramstein. This quiet music that kept accumulating in Mutter. This inner conflict that this music alone illustrates and also my feelings. My face became a distorted grimace as tears ran down my face. I react very strongly to music emotionally, but the very song that I kept coming across at that time was a test. Even today I can only enjoy this song with caution. I have many of these songs. I am writing this to you because I have great respect for your openness in the emotions to this song. Thanks for this video. Thanks also for your channel here and the work you do. It is not easy to fill a format with content over and over again. You do it very well. The song Heuchler (Megaherz) means a lot to me. It was the entrance to another world, I heard it as I stepped into the Große Freiheit 36 to the Schwarze Nacht party years ago. Dark light, goths, metalheads, an immersive light show and this song. This was the time I finally found my music.

A Song that means a lot to me is "Euch zum Geleit" from Schandmaul. It is a sad song, but it was a song that was dear to my geatgrandma and me. She always asked me why I love folk and metal music so much. So I showed her that song and sge got it. After that we often talked about my typ of music and she started listening to it too. We even went to a concert once. My then 92 years old granny enjoying herself like she was young again! Then... last year she died after her second stroke. I couldn't believe it... At the funeral I waited at her grave and started singing the song. It was my way to say Good Bye and whenever I listen to that song... I think of her. kzbin.info/www/bejne/h4OanHV4pdmHZ7M

Rammstein is a wonderful band. Even more so when you speak German and understand how multi-faceted and deep the lyrics actually are. I'm German and grew up being exposed to Rammstein. They were on MTV, in the newspapers, and quite controversial, which I gravitated towards from a very young age. My favourite song of theirs is "Nebel" (an anagram for "Leben", meaning "life") - a song about an old man who lost the love of his life a long time ago and dwells in the memories of this person. The way the lyrics are written is beautiful poetry and very emotionally moving, especially the last line which brings into perspective the severity of his heartache.

That's exactly the way, we germans approach most foreign songs. We listen to the music and feel the emotions, before we get to the lyrics, if ever. Fun Fact: The very popular spanish party song "vamos a la playa" is about a nuclear explosion. Hardly anybody knows that in Deutschland.

I am no expert on metal music but in the last weeks I listened very often Rammstein and reactions and covers and now I think that concerning the lyrics there is only one band with similar serious and meaningful lyrics and this was Sepultura from Brazil with all the political stuff. All the others seem to be on war, fantasy and gothic things, but Rammstein dives deeply into even the darkest corners of human mind and also has its opinons to themes of politics and society ( like Deutschland, Ausländer, Hallelujah, Links 2-3-4).

If I'm honest, the song that got me, still gets me and always will is from a movie soundtrack and it starts with an African chant. It's Circle of life. That song has me in tears out of nothing when I'm not careful, controlling my emotions listening to it. So yeah it is not a Rock or Metal song at all, even if most of the music i listen to belongs into those two genres. Why? I can hardly explain but the lyrics are beautiful, explaining life in simple but meaningful words. The African language in the song that gives roots to it and life. It feels authentic somehow. There is soul in that song because of it. And then there is the melody. Gosh pls i just cry a river hearing the melody i don't even need the lyrics. Beautiful, haunting, reaching your soul and heart. I really have a hard time explaining this song actually bc it just hits me and it gives me that feeling of love and care but also hurts me at the same time. Yeah i don't know if it's understandable but that's how it is for me.

Rammstein are amazing for capturing an emotion in a song in a way that transcends the language. You don't have to understand German to get the vibe, the feel, for songs like Mutter, Ohne dich, Amerika, Feuer und Wasser, hallomann, puppe, and Was Ich liebe. Same goes for the Lindermann tracks Steh auf, Knebel and Ich weiss es nicht (yes, I've spelled that wrong, I don't know how to add the B using an English keyboard). Understanding the lyrics brings extra depth for sure, but these and many, many more songs that Herr Till Lindemann was involved with...

The beautiful thing about Rammstein is that their lyrics are never straight ahead. Even as a German you have to look for the meaning. I think that also has a big impact on their popularity overall. I do have a personal connection to that song as well just like you regarding my family but not only my mother. But for me, it's English lyrics somehow has a bigger impact on me. I don't know what it is but I feel more connected to English than German. So a song that means a lot to me is "We are" from Hollywood Undead. It helped me through a rough time of my life. I started my Training (Ausbildung) for a job that I knew I need to do. The drive I had to do it is so strong that I literally can't put it into words. The problem was my boss didn't pay me. Since my School for that job was very far away, I basically couldn't afford to go to it. My dad had a stroke a view weeks after I started the job so my family couldn't support me financially back then. I didn't eat more than one piece of toast a day while I was in school for 3 weeks in a row. Not being able to go home on the weekends as well. That Song pushed me through the first year. After that, I was able to switch to a company 150 km away from my hometown to continue doing this job. Now when I hear this song, every memory appears in my head. I didn't get the money until 2 years later, and I had to hire a lawyer to actually get it. I was 17 back then now with 23 still doing that job I know why it was so important to me to continue doing exactly that, and I learned that taking the hard way and biting the bullet is worth it. "We are" has an exponential place in my heart.

Now ... it's kinda broken: Kreator, Heimataerde, Falco, Funker Vogt, Rammstein, Heino [only the "Mit freundlichen Grüßen" album, but anyway] - may sound like a weird playlist, but I'm totally used to it. :D

Nice video, as always. Rammstein didn’t play that song live until 2011, because there was a huge disagreement between the band members. Normally, all of their decisions are voted on by the band, with each of them having a say and a vote. The music video for Mutter was shot right after a fairly exhausting tour of them, and no one except for Till was on set for the shoot. That’s the reason why only he is in the video. He made all of the choices regarding the video, and the other members felt left out.

thats a cool idea for a series. Here is another one: Battle of the b ands (or artists). Frank Sinatra vs. Udo Jürgens, Capital Bra vs. 50 Cent, Xasthur vs. Horn and the likes :P

No, i won't do anything like that. My first few videos were reactions and one was a Capital Bra video. I hated it and tore it apart. You can imagine many responses and we had to take it down for several reasons. So I will be careful with things like that
