Hello. This is a great rock song with a great message without condemning people's faith itself. It is about the atrocities committed and until this day without any real consequences. I'm certainly not a person of faith and neither are they, but I accept and have no issue if people do. (As long as they don't force their beliefs on me) Till has achieved a small masterpiece here, which is what the German language allows: you may have noticed that almost every word begins with the pronoun "ver". we do it all the time use compound words, but doing it for a hole song/ subject is something different. The hole album is really great, I listen to it quite often. With love from Germany❤🤘🏻 P.S.: missed your guy's Rammstein reactions. They are down to earth, without much primborium. Which I like very much. Already excited, what you'll say about "Puppe" the toughest, darkest one on the album. Had to take my headphones off after 1st time listening to it.

I’m a protestant vicar and a Rammstein fan. And this is one of favorite songs of this album. In Liturgy, we have what is called the “kyrie” prayer, basically asking God to have mercy on the World, on us humans and not in the least on us Christians. For all that we do wrong. It’s also a kind of a cry out for God to show himself to us. I have once or twice used the lyrics of this song, in a slightly adapted version, for the Kyrie prayer. It points out so accurately what we christians (“God’s ground crew”) do wrong. And as a cry out: Show yourself (in us)! Theologically, this song is so interesting: in the fake-Latin intro a few actual Latin phrases stand out: crucifixus - crusified, extraspection - (the capability) to look outward, lumine - light/enlighten. And the actual lyrics: Zeig Dich, versteck Dich nicht - Show yourself, don’t hide. While this is definitely directed towards God, it can also be directed to the christian/believer to be a force of good in the world. Wir verlieren das Licht - We lose the light: The world is getting darker, and there is no sign of light and of God, because even christians don’t really show it in the world. Even christians engage in the bad things mentioned in the verse. Der Himmel faerbt sich rot - The Heavens color red: Red is the colour of passion and of love, and in the christian tradition it is the colour of the Holy Spirit. My interpretation as a pastor: we as humans beings/believers/christians are the vessels to show God’s light, whether He is real or not, through our acts (of love and kindness) instead of condemning and persecuting others. As the Church has done for millennia, sadly. This song is a cry out to God to come out and show Himself, but also to believers to show themselves and to show Him by showing love, mercy and kindness in this dark world.

@Seddon: Dutch singer Robert Long (1943 - 2006) has some interesting songs about religion. He was openly homosexual in the 60s, 70s and 80s and had his struggles with the Church because of that. I think you will be able to find his songs with English subtitles. Most notorious one is Jezus redt (Jesus saves), but there's also "Homo Sapiens" (about gays being condemned by conservative clergy) and the hilarious "Jacob", about a young priest who wants to spice things up in church, for example by having a hashish bar in the vicarage.

In Germany we usually call this album "the one with the match" 😂. Rammstein is always known for "packing on hot iron" (a germanism 😉). The Rammstones were born in eastgermany. Religion didn't fit in the political system and there were only 15 % catholics. So they had only marginal understanding for catholic "carnival". So do I 😜.

There was a video recorded for Zeig Dich but the boys weren't 100% happy with the final result so it hasn't been released. Once again, Rammstein find a sound and like their fingers into it regardless of people's reaction to it. It's such a clever song. From the only just there Latin choir lyrics to the use of words beginning with V, there's that indication of a loss of faith because of the corruption that's been witnessed. The V could be viewed as an inverted holy trinity, the pseudo-Latin as a corruption of elements of a Catholic church service. It steadily hammers the message home but, as you say, also in a poetic manner. Great reaction again guys, noticed Me Seddon's smile when the choir vocals came back in as well. Religion? Each to their own but frankly, it means nowt to me. It just seems to cause far more problems than it's ever solved.
