A great song about friendship and camaraderie. Rammstein was pretty close to breaking up multiple times in their 30 year history, but probably never more than during the "Mutter" era, where tensions among the six band members were at their peak. The band eventually managed pulled through though and this song is in direct reference to that. Six hearts that burn and keep together. And once one of them calls it quits, Rammstein ends. There are no replacements. It just wouldn't work. The band might be scary looking from the outside, but inside they're all human beings with emotions. Just like the scary Haifisch, whose tears cannot be seen.

I'm reading a book (my window seats) from Till's mother at the moment, which I'm really enjoying. You know, she was in the audience that night at the MSG. The guys were so nervous that she wouldn't approve of something they were doing on stage. So adorable. ❤. They are doing the crowd surfing, so Till gets a break from being stared at. Till said in an interview, that he needs this break, other way he gets in a bad mood and than one of the other band members suffer😅. You know, Till is very shy and still gets stage fright. For me this is a lyrical masterclass, a plethora of very diffrent meanings of the word "halt/halten" in German (all the verses are just composed of this) and the chorus is a nod to Berthold Brechts "Mack the knife". Love it.

this was Rammstein first concerts in the US for nearly 10 years and Till still suffers from stage fright and if you notice he takes every opportunity to move to the back off stage and stare up at the ceiling etc

both this and "ohne dich" are strictly bound to the band members as they are: a single entity, all together till the end, if any of them leaves or passes away, the R+ experience is definitely over... and they're together for about 30 years, soon... and every week they go to the psychologist together, expecially after the "mutter" events :)

I think there's an official video version with the lyrics. They're inspired by the 1928 Kurt Weill song "Meckie Messer" for a Bertold Brecht play. The song is known as "Mack the Knife" in English, but the words are not the same, there's no mention of a shark in the English language song.

About the "sad" face: Till suffered from extreme stage fright. I assume that's the reason why he sometimes looked "terrified", especially in those moments when he is not singing. Maybe this is also the reason why he oftenly impersonates the characters of their songs. In newer live videos you almost don't see this facial expression anymore. So I guess that he has found a way to deal with this. In the beginning he oftenly used to wear weird goggles to avoid seeing the audience, e.g.: Rammstein (live Bizarre Festival 1996) - kzbin.info/www/bejne/bHLRYq1jrtqmsKc Regarding to the lyrics, you are right. It's about the camaraderie and loyalty in the band. In their official video they make a joke about themselves by just acting in the oposite way of the lyrics. I know…I want to see them again. Don’t know if they’ll tour N. America again, I know they are touring Europe but I can see them always touring in the EU. I feel like this might be their last tour though. It’s been a very long tour and they’ve gone to so many countries that it somewhat feels like a farewell. I hope I’m wrong. Till is touring solo now in N. America, but unfortunately not near me. Well maybe the NY show… it’s general admission!

The music video for it is really cool. If you want to watch it, I recommend you first watch the music videos for "du hast" (have you already seen), "ohne dich", "Amerika", "Keine Lust" and "Sonne". Hi, "Los" is another really good one about themself. There`s a fanmade video with Eng subtitles on "educatedmarine" channel who provides you with nearly all Rammstein"s music videos with subtitles while "buckstabu" provides the live videos. Both channels are happy to be available for reaction videos. They would be pleased to be credited, for example with a link to the original video and a mention in your video description. edit: The "Los" video could maybe be on buckstabu, I can`t remember exactly, sorry.
