I feel stupid that I only just realised watching this video now, at the beginning when they are underwater, or rather when we are looking up as they float above, it just hit me now, the light above the surface of the water, is actually the "face" of the "Time" beings, the moving light, the shape, it is one of the faces of Time/Zeit! Before I thought it was literally just the daylight above, and the bright whiteness caused by the turbulence and air bubbles as they entered the water. But when we see them fall in/out the boat, there is hardly any daylight, no sunlight to shine on the surface that way! Is the rope tied around his neck or is it caught and twisted around, in the start when in the intro in the water? I still feel like the part where the babies are born(in reverse), with the mirrored side the sands of time flow into like an hourglass, and the passing/receiving the babies to the Zeit beings, has a connection with stillbirth, which side of the hourglass are you on, to which facet of Zeit does each child belong, is it handed to/from past, present or future? idk, this part just really has stuck with me. Also does anyone know, the choral type high notes at the start and other times, is that choral, is it as Dave (I think) first posited Till's vocals transposed into the high range, is it synth work from Flake...?

I don't quite agree that the dark figures simply represent 'The Grim Reaper'. Try this viewpoint; there's too many of the dark figures to represent TGR, as usually he's seen primarily as omnipotent, thus singular (although he has an uncountable forms). I seem the dark figures through a more contemporary lens, as comparable to the 'Dementors' of Harry Potter, 'The King of the Ring Raithes' in The Lord of the Rings', and my favour dark 'oily' figure, 'No Face' of Studio Ghibli's Spirited Away (other 'oily' figures appear in Studio Ghibli's wonderful animations - and I make not excuse for the oily pun - it may well link Rammstein's 'Benzin'). The poignant comment re No Face, is that he is not evil as such, but just absorbs and reflects that which is around him. Now I've said that I'm looking through a lens of contemporary reference, I'm now going to contradict myself, with something more classically, and contemporarily framed. I see the dark figure that stands on the water in front of the boat, as a mermaid. For me, there's a word here that suggests itself, because of its absence, and that is 'geist'. Geist = ghost or spirit: Zeitgeist as 'Sprit of the Age'. As Dave Vlog said, interpretations abound with this video: the level of ambiguity is almost of the scale, when comparing it to there last single / video release, 'Deutschland'; which is a festival of historic references, for drawing that 'red thread' through!
