Yeah, it us actually BETTER than being there (for listening purposes anyway) because of how loud they were! You couldn't really tell what song was playing until you heard the lyrics lol. I got permanent hearing damage from seeing them too many times. I'd do it again. Lol

I saw The Ramones in about 1990 in London. I was right down the front just before they came on when I noticed my shoelace was undone. I bent down to tie it when I heard Joey scream, "Hi, we're The Ramones...1, 2, 3, 4..." and boom - they tore into the first song at 100 miles an hour (way faster than these early gigs) and the crowd turned into an instant mosh pit. At the end of the first song I bent down to try again when I heard Joey say "It's great to be here...1, 2, 3, 4.." and boom - they tore into the second song. I think you can see where this is going. Needless to say that I never did get my shoelace tied until the end of the gig. The Ramones were amazing. Definitely one of the highest energy gigs I've ever witnessed. R.I.P lads.

I do not like Any politicians, they are all liers, but all government leftists bringed misery for my people. Bolsonaro is half idiot and stupid, but he is a necessary evil among so many politicians with the same failure idea - Socialism. I living here and i can say what i live every days 60k people murdered per year. Too many women being raped per day. Too many people starving. Pretty sure they’re following Dee Dee’s count off (always the same “tempo”) up to the first note but *they all know the tempo of the song* from endless practice/gigs without much tempo variation. Exactly right. In 1977 they couldn’t be touched. I saw them 4 weeks after this gig and it was incredible. A false floor was installed at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium and because people were still doing the Pogo the false floor went up and down. You could stand still and still be Pogoing. Damndest thing I ever did see. I saw them again in 1979 with Marky and it wasn’t the same. Tommy was better (for the Ramones) and they were playing faster which did not suit the material. Also, Joey had started to do the leave-out-some-syllables style that dominated his later years. It was lazy and I never saw them again after that year.

Legendary Ramones concert. They were a music machine gun barely pausing between songs they hit you with round after round in rapid succession. The speed of their set list was only possible through sheer will power. Joey’s ripping vocals, Johnny’s warp speed down stroke on lead guitar, Dee Dee’s blistering bass playing along with Tommy rhythmically beating the drum kit like it owed him money. We will never see anything like the Ramones again. I’m glad videos of them exist so the world will remember what real rock looked like.

As a guitarist I've always marveled at Johnny and Deedee's right hand technique. It's human nature when the bpms get that fast to start alternate picking. They'd have none of that, too jangly and wimpy. Everything is on the downstroke. Their hands become blurred and if you watch the wide shots with both of them, they synchronized their picking patterns perfectly. Even just from the perspective of a physical workout it's remarkable and they often did it for 2 hours and then did it again the next night. I can't imagine how their elbows and wrists survived the abuse. This was one of my most played albums as a kid, and I learned every song in order. I could play every note, but I could never play it like johnny did.

There is so much impossible stuff going on here - The speed at which Dee Dee’s and Johnny’s hands move, Tommy’s eighths on the hat, Joey’s rock-like stability at the center of the storm, the nearly identical tempos, the craziness and naked sincerity of the lyrics, Dee Dee’s insane jumps, the tiny dismissive gaps between songs, the “banter” (“After eating chicken vindaloo, I wanna be well.”), Dee Dee’s count offs . . . The band I truly miss and have seen live the most. I won 4 tickets on the radio one night working a grave shift. The DJ wanted the 10th caller. It was 3:00 a.m. and no one ever called in that late. I used to talk to this DJ frequently about music when we were slow at work. He turned me on to some genres I was unaware of and would play tracks so I didn’t have to buy if I didn’t like it. Back then 12’’ records were $5, doubles were $10 and sometimes you got a poster. He did his job requirement and made me call back until I was 10th and then, in a monotone voice, he said “yaaay, you just won 2 tickets to see the Ramones”. We laughed, I said thanks and I picked the tickets up at Tower Records down the street the next day. This was also before everyone had cell phones and gps. I looked up the venue in the yellow pages and got verbal directions from the bartender. It was a small blue collar joint out of the city about 45 minutes away in the middle of bumfu. . uh, nowhere. Maximum occupancy 50. I remember seeing that sign because I thought to myself, “Damn, we’re gonna be packed like sardines in a can”! By the looks of it though, they probably never had 50 people in there on a good night. I took my older roommate and his girlfriend. He said “Who? Oh the ramones, I remember them, they suck”. But he had a car. I convinced him to drive by giving them tickets and said I’d buy their drinks for the night. He was at least open minded hah. Rolling his eyes, he begrudgingly said “yea, but you’re paying for gas and if they suck we’re leaving”. I agreed and resigned myself to hitchhiking back if they left. Unbelievably, nobody else would take the 4th ticket because it was on a Wednesday or Thursday. There couldn’t have been more than 10-15 people in there at a time. Zippy was running around the bar in full dress with a Gabba Gabba Hey sign. The stage barely fit their gear but they played Exactly like this to an almost empty room. Full Bore giving it all they had. It was like we watched some Twilight Zone practice session. The bar had a free steak and potato’s buffet and we had a table about 3’ away from center stage. My roommates brain must have exploded at some point that night. By the time we left he was hoarse from screaming ‘’Hey Ho Let’s Go!!’’ He wouldn’t give my leather jacket back until the next day and bought himself one a week or so later. I think he might have even slept in mine that night. She had to drive us home and was unimpressed I’m sure (Bon Jovi/Nordstrom chick). The next day he admitted he was wrong, took back all the trash talking and my records went on heavy rotation Hahaa!! I saw them again shortly after that show with Blondie at the Moore in Seattle and even though they kicked ass, nothing could compare to the night I sawed up a couple steaks, ate potato’s, had shots, beers and turned my die hard rhythm and blues roommate into a Ramones fan. R.I.P. to the Greatest 3 chord Rock and Roll band that ever existed. ✌️

I am Russian and was born in 1988 in the USSR, I love punk rock and Ramones is its icon. We will all die, not about descendants, earthlings, will continue to listen to "*It's alive*" , because it's legendary. Havana Affair is my favorite song all the time. I'm glad that I managed to partly touch the legend during Marky Ramone's DJ set and get his autograph in Russia in 2013. Ramones - one and only. Album "rocket to Russia" - my answer - from Russia with love!

Anyone who thinks this is easy hasn't tried to make this kind of sound. Great musicians, every one. I will always love the Ramones and rebuke people who say they can't play! Dee Dee in particular is underrated, especially because of his Marilyn Monroe-esque dumb-blonde self negating defense mechanism. But man, his songs are great, and his bass playing is right on.

what johnny did was so much harder though, playing those full barre chords all the time with all downstrokes at the speed they usually played live is pretty insane. most punk rock guitar players just stick with the power chords but johnny played the full chords which gave the ramones that bigger wall of sound, but your right that dee dee is underrated. not to mention that dee dee ramone was by far the best songwriter in the band and an extremely tight bass player.....and his stage presence was so fucking cool as well! tommy ramone is probably the most underrated member, you dont hear much about tommy but the ramones were never the same after he left the band and he was a really solid drummer too, marky is probably a better drummer but he didnt have the whole package like tommy, tommy was kind of the leader of the band and the organizer of the band when he was there....

I agree. Without Tommy, there wouldn't have been the Ramones. I also agree that while Marky is a proficient drummer, the band was never the same when Tommy left the band for the producer's chair. The band just sounded right when Tommy was (begrudgingly) behind the drum kit. The first four Ramones albums are untouchable as far as seminal punk albums go.

Simply the best ever live concert ever filmed. Filmed over 2 nights . Obviously edited brilliantly. The full concert is the album It’s Alive . Greatest live album of all time. When people ask about punk. This is it. 30 songs, 45 minutes, no time for solos, no playing whilst standing still, no playing facing the drummer or with back to the audience. Just 100% stripped down , played tight as ..Most importantly so many great songs. Awesome songs. And style ..

Boy. I think everyone here means well, but unfortunately there is a ton of incorrect info in this comment thread. I'm just going to set the record straight. 1. This video is from a single show (not multiple shows compiled), December 31st 1977 going into New Years 1978. Several Ramones shows were recorded around this time, with the intent to pick the best one for the live album, and film the entire show. This New Years Eve show was picked. 2. The live album/CD/vinyl version of this show "It's Alive" had the guitar, bass and vocals replaced in the studio. This video version however, features the real, original audio from the concert. Moments like Dee Dee briefly not playing his bass were fixed here by splicing in other sections of the live audio, not with overdubs. 3. Despite the full performance featuring 28 songs (as heard on the album version), this edited down video version only showcases 14 songs. This is mostly due to issues with the footage from this concert. A lot of it was unusable (damaged/out of focus/not a good shot), and some songs simply weren't filmed well enough from enough angles to make the cut. Even the songs shown here sometimes have brief clips spliced in from other parts of the concert, to fill in moments that didn't have a usable shot. These issues arose from the fact that this concert was NOT filmed professionally (there was no video control booth with a director coordinating things), but was captured instead by just having some dudes around the stage with film cameras. The footage is a messy jumble of efforts, and was apparently quite difficult to later sort through and sync to the audio. Due to this filming style though, there are a lot of cool and varied shots throughout. 4. The rest of the footage still exists, but largely hasn't been released. Edited down clips of "Rockaway Beach" and "Sheena Is A Punk Rocker" have been shown separately from this video in documentaries. The footage of "Rockaway Beach" is on my channel with repairs to its damaged audio. 5. Despite all these issues, thank god this concert was filmed and edited together on any level. It may be incomplete and a bit messily edited, but it's an incredible piece of music history with some of the most amazing shots/moments of the original Ramones lineup in their prime.

@@HardlyRamone Sorry my friend, but it’s the other way around. . I bought the vinyl release when it was released, and the sound on that vinyl just can’t be compared with this video.
