Wow, these are awesome maps! All the custom content is really impressive. The stories, the 3D graphics, the reloading mechanic, the pustules, the lizards on fridges... Oh, my!

The wall of text at the midpoint(?) of Debt to the Deathless is honestly there mostly to make it clear why the tone of the map changes completely and the story that was set up at the start just... dissolves.

But, yes, right. Thanks for playing (and organizing), and I'm glad you noticed that the secret "snacks" scattered throughout the map weren't actually keys. And, given the nonlinearity of the second half of the map, I clearly needed to signal somehow that the vine-covered switch that unlocked the library also opened half of the bars leading to the boss arena...

Finally, the linedeflizard has entered the stage :D Yes, Exit the Gecko uses some of the same AI generated textures the Alien Lair prototype had and a couple of new ones. I like the visual coherency between the two, maybe they can become part of a map set one day.

So I am right in thinking there was a demo or add on Alien map set for Doom? I can remember seeing a demo running on a PC at a computer fair in '94 ish and haven't seen anything about it since, making me think I had dreamt it up...

@@littlesteve855 Yes, there was. I had a shovelware CD which included sprite/sound replacements for Doom1 monsters -- imps and pinkies were various types of Xenomorphs and Barons were some kind of robot which was reminiscent of the power-loader Ripley fights the Alien Queen in. The version I had recycled a bunch of existing maps to make an episode to go with the sprites. Most of the textures were vanilla, but I think there were a couple of H.R. Giger works converted to texture format as well. I *think* there was a version with more textures and original levels as well.

That Doomsphere should have had a grinning Doomguy face in it :XDf More amazing maps. A lot of "This is the start of a bigger map" going on. Maybe next RAMP might be something to encourage. Do the first 10 minutes of your super epic map and make it really punch :)

I was pretty sure you couldn't put 3d-models directly into a wad, do people submit pk3 archives? I wish I had known this was possible. I would have loved to submit my blood forest map, but this'll give me time to finish it in time for RAMP2024.

Lordentropy found a way - it’s a feature of the compiler for the project, looking for lumps that are unique to it and that don’t mean anything to GZDoom so that it can extract them to the correct place in the final pk3 :) I’ll make sure to document it for next year

22:09 Did you just say NaNoWADMo? That's a thing too? That's how I've been trying to describe RAMP to my friends. I am chuckling a little bit at the acronym only replacing the "Writing" part of "Novel Writing" like we're WADing Novels over here in DOOM.

Hah, yes - it’s a bit of a stretch but they work around it by saying the “novel” part means “new” :)
