The athletes that play during games are impressive but the time and dedication the OSU marching band puts in is amazing

There's a great movie about making this band. They have to try out every year. They are very dedicated if they get a spot in this band. In the movie they flew to London as the half-time show for the NFL game there. When they went back into the tunnel security couldn't get it over the show they put on. The same year they rode to NYC on buses for the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. After the parade they rode back to Ohio and arrived early Friday morning. They had to be at band practice a few hours later to practice for Saturday's game. They don't get much down time. These kids study late at night and never party. They are held to a very high standard.

Incredible video! Still to this day...The Best Damn Band In The Land! 1878-Present Day! Many marching band innovations were first tried and developed at THE Ohio State. Among them are: floating and animated formations, measured step marching, script writing, and the fast cadence with a high knee lift. Brass instruments especially designed for marching bands were also first used at Ohio State. In 1934, the THE OSUMB became one of the first collegiate bands to adopt an all brass-and-percussion instrumentation.

I’d attend an OSU game just to watch the band and drum major perform.

I have to say this is my favorite college band hands down. They’re precise on their feet and musically. I’ve seen a ton of their videos year over year and the complexity, tradition, and classiness is evident over all others I’ve seen. Im a TX native and adore this over both UT and A&Ms slow schlep. They’re also good but not at this quality.

My family hates me. Let me explain. I come from a long line of musicians. Both my parents were in Marching Band in High School as were my sister and I. My mom also Marched for TCU. Later, my mom worked at TCU and supported the TCU band. She knows the current director for the Michigan State Band (he went to TCU). Well, you would think a Texan such as I am would like TCU or UT or Texas A&M’s marching bands, but I do not. I have watched just about every Ohio State Marching Band video on KZbin and I can say hands down OSMB is THE best. I like the tradition of the opening show, I appreciate the bands ability to stay in step and keep straight lines, the music, the skill of the drum major and just the overall show. Even though I have never even been to Ohio, I hope to one day be at a game to see the band first hand. So yes, I am a Buckeye fan. Go Ohio State! You guys are THE BEST. So that is why my family hates me.

Ethan Dunlop Exactly. I think the Aggies would take that one. Much more precise marching, and in my opinion better playing.

TDWProductions Maybe better marching but not cooler. They can’t do anything fun because of how big they are

Very good observation! Military training was an important part of the early curriculum at Ohio State, and a band was formed to provide music to the cadets for drills. The Marching Band originated in 1878 as a fife and drum corps and was sponsored by the university's Military Department. Haven’t stopped the traditions since.

You mean Ohio right? Home of Cleveland, Ohio which is the 2nd largest city in the state (438,000) that is 59.8% African American. The highest of any Major City in the United States. That’s where I live so maybe mommy and daddy told you stories about Ohio is all white but sorry you where grown up ignorant. Now you know: -Kevin from Cleveland, Ohio.

Why do they march like a bunch of weirdos? Lol what kind of band major does a limbo when leading a band? Just curious
@glamrockstannie81176 жыл бұрын
It’s a tradition at Ohio State University- The backbend is an iconic part of our salute. I believe that it was incorporated into the performance by the first drum major to sync his twirling with the band’s music, Dwight Hudson (?)
