As a former Aggie Band member, thank you so much for your kind words! The drills are designed by the cadets serving as drum majors with the directors’ help, and it all has to be done on paper because this maneuver literally can’t be scripted in drill-charting software.
@nuttysquirrel85742 күн бұрын
@@kacierowlette1664 You're welcome. Respect where Respect due. I did have a wee smile though at your comment re-drill charting software!! This didn't exist in my 10yrs service in 1960-70s so all our band displays were worked out, on foot, on a parade ground by the Drum Major, the Band Officer, and maybe a couple of Senior NCOs🤣🤣 However, software, or no software, ideas still need to be created, endless practices to be done, and finally, perfect performance on the day which the Aggies never fail to achieve. BRAVO!!!!!

Matching bands are on at halftime in many college games. They used to be shown in their entirety by the networks televising the games. I guess when the networks started paying their on-air talent so much, they decided they had to get more out of them and have them talk through halftime, now. When I was young, there was no way to show video of other games in progress, either, so it was good enough to just run a chyron of other scores at the bottom of the screen.

My son tells me that this portion of the show could not be plotted on the computer because technically, 2 people were in the same spot at the same time….
@AllAmericanGuyExpert10 күн бұрын
My band used software in the late 1980s. I saw it on the band leader's computer. Prior to that, the routines were of a similar complexity, but of course the military bands like TAMU had this figured out decades earlier. Most large high schools could do a decent job of it. Marching bands are really, really old, as is the music written for it. The early 20th century saw several bands in every small town and parades were common. TAMU's band would have looked largely the same roughly 70 to a hundred years ago at a football half-time show. That's the whole point. If you want some spectacular performances, go see "drum and bugle corps" competitions. They have formations that are really only possible with a computer unless the director is really, really good.

As a former band student in Jr. High and High School, I applaud this amazing band! We were a small town band and didn't have as big of a band, but we did marched Military style! I can not stand the current trend in high schools where the bands are marching less and doing more show tunes. There are drum sets, electric pianos, electric guitars, no majorettes, little marching at all. They usually just face the home crowd and "perform" the music. No real march music like John Phillip Sousa and Francis McBeth, among others. As I sat here and watched this awesome show, I started to cry. I don't even know these kids, but I'm so proud of them! THIS IS WHAT A MARCHING BAND SHOULD BE! Thank you Texas Aggie Band! You've made this old band 71 year old band nerd happy! I'm so glad your college strongly supports you. 🥰

It looks simpler to me than you described. All they are doing is following the the marcher in front of them. Follow the leader where the leaders are the flag carriers. Watch closely and will see this. The flag carriers have to know steps and direction. Easier for them since they are not performing music at the same time.

My wife graduated from Texas A&M. Her favorite record is still "10,000 rabid Aggies sing Hullaballu Kinik Kinik and other Aggie Fight Songs."

I was in marching band in high school and although I loved doing parades, trying to learn different positions every week for the football games was brutal. That performance was beautiful, amazing and insanely difficult. I just kept waiting for a trombone to knock someone else or two tubas to collide. Absolutely brilliant! Thank you for sharing it with the rest of us. I may have to start watching college football just to see the halftime performances.

^^^ they could NEVER EVER be the best. there are a few HBCU MARCHING BANDS that would leave this aggie band in the desert dust. maybe, you should get out of college station more...

They are a marching military band. The Aggies once invited Prairie View A&M to perform at halftime and the crowd gave them a standing applause. Their band all laid down on the field while playing and it was the only halftime that they lost.

How in the world do they remember all the steps to each formation. Amazing.

Yes, the Fighting Aggie Band is the best.....I grew up an Aggie's saughter where the success or failure of Thangsgiving Day was determined by the winber of the infamous, Texas Aggie vs Texas Longhorn, football game! 🤣💜
