This was my era too. I’m from New York and a Jets fan first but my NFC (2nd team) team was the Rams. Loved these mid to late 80s squads, Dickerson (till 87), Henry Ellard, Kevin Greene, Leroy Irvin were some of my faves and don’t sleep on little Mike Lansford the barefoot kicker. He was a clutch, money kicker.

@@0sumgamezzz435 John Robinson even told Jackie Slater that if he had Eric Dickerson on that 1989 team, they may have had a better chance to beat the 49ers in that 1989 NFC Championship game. And yes, I know the 1989 Niners were one of the best teams in NFL history, but still, Dickerson was one of the best football players of the 1980s for a reason. Greg Bell even as solid as he was, he was no Eric Dickerson.

That was a great time but after Dickerson left, it was a slow, steady slide down to the bottom. I still followed them even when they were in St.Louis. For me, it's about the team, not where they're playing. The 90's were ROUGH. When the GSOT came I was absolutely out of my mind.

Then it wasn't slow and steady it was a free fall to 3-13 in only 2 years. Having ED wouldn't have helped their defense which was the biggest problem.

@@bbigjohnson069 You'll have to forgive me for not acknowledging the 2 years, post E.D., I was really referring to the franchise and the mental anguish I went through in the 90's. Bare in mind, it was hard for me when the Rams let Henry Ellard go. I remember watching the news broadcast in Fresno of the Rams calling him to inform him he was going to the Rams. It was hard but that 99 year was sweet revenge.

The year 1985 was the beginning of the end for Eric Dickerson and his time with the Rams. Sure, he had a great year in 1986 but the contract talks helped to distance him from the Rams and their fans (many of them Orange County Rams fans came at him with racist overtones from 1985 to 1987). Dickerson has publicly said that 1985 was tough on him. In 1985 he held out (as he should have; have you seen the yearly money he got for 1983, 1984, and going into the 1985 season before his holdout?) and missed two games. He only had 5-100 yards games and only 1,234 yards in '85 which are so-so numbers for a back of Dickerson's caliber.

@@goldeneve Yes, 1946 was their first season/year in LA. If you count the years starting with 1946 and ending with 1985, 1985 is the 40th year. You're looking at the difference between the two numbers which is 39 not the same thing. If a player was a rookie in 1991 and retired after the 1999 season how many years did he play? It's not 8, but 9.
