That "poor" kid bluffed, blagged and lied his way into the head chef position. The owner should've known better. Still, he was a complete knob for deliberately deceiving her, taking her for a ride, and happily doing nothing but running her business into the ground whilst taking her money month after month, yet constantly assuring her he knew what he was doing, until she was in complete financial meltdown. And yet, when Gordon showed him how it could be done, and he _was_ capable of doing it, he had a wonderfully successful evening. With his new skills, he _could've_ helped her drag the business out of the financial hole and erase the negative reputation he'd help create. But, as soon as Gordon left, he immediately reverted to his lazy, do nothing ways. Once Gordon returned and pointed out his foul behavior, he decided to get his act together - BUT, at another restaurant, as a line chef, learning to cook, as he should've been doing from the start. Just awful that he finally decided to put effort into his work, but only when it benefited him. He felt no remorse for what he'd done, and no responsibility toward her to stay and get the restaurant up on its feet before moving on. Ah, being young, selfish and utterly lacking in self-awareness, lol. Poor kid? Hmmm, yeah right, SMH....

Back in my late teens I worked as a live-in cook/waitress in a coastal pub restaurant that had a great reputation for its food. The owner would get all of his meat from a local farm just up the road; he'd literally buy half a cow and chop it up himself into the different cuts of steak. He also caught a lot of the fish we served as well, going out early in the day in his boat and coming back with plaice, skate, sole and sea bass to serve for the evening session. And I know the crab was fresh every day, because I used to come down after breakfast to see him boiling them up in his big kettle, and then help him to 'pick' them for meat (that's 'pick' as in pull it out of the shells with a long tool like a crochet hook, not 'pick' as in choose. 😁) It wasn't cheap to eat there, but the quality was top-notch - you definitely got what you paid for.
