This episode really shows how great of a guy Gordon is. He's so much calmer when talking to Mike than he would normally be in this show because he really sees how Mike is suffering. It's not about some arrogant chef who needs a rude awakening. It's quite a nice change of pace for the show too.

You guys should watch the British version of his show. No shouting, no music stings, just Ramsey going to restaurants and trying to help. Actually the American version is borderline unwatchable in comparison.

This was probably the saddest and most heartfelt episode of Kitchen Nightmares I've seen, because the "problem guy" wasn't simply a dirtbag in denial like so many others, he was a decent human being struggling with grief and throwing himself into his work and drink to forget. Smart and tough daughters too. In situations like this, Gordon Ramsay is less of a food critic, and more of a psychologist, reigniting the passion that died in people and helping them get over their genuine barriers to success.

Yes you are right. My dad died from cancer within 4 weeks from his diagnosis. It was such a shock that made me ill. Half of me died too and coping with work and stress gave me double depression. It's taken me 4 yrs to regrow my backbone as I dreamed about him in my sleep and when I woke up it was my first thoughts and my last when I fell asleep from exhaustion. I have no support and I am very lonely. I know how he felt and the drinking just makes it even worse. So happy that all the family got together and made a great place for the customers. Bless them:)

It's really not that simple. If you're in a place that gets really cold, a carpet makes sense. You also have to take into account how much noise the hard floor would make in a particular building (acoustics, other materials used, and so on). For a quick make-over a new heavy-duty carpet is way cheaper than a properly insulated floor. Style of restaurant also needs to be taken into account. Then there's the obvious that carpets can be cleaned easily as well. I mean deep cleaned, not just vacuumed.

The restaurant did work for a while but was shut down in a few years. The restaurant is closed for the last five years. And the family now runs a private catering business, Blue Basil Catering Company with Mike as the main chef. The company caters for house parties, corporate events, and aviation catering. So if you’d like to check out more of Mike’s cooking, give Blue Basil Catering Company a look.

You can tell that this chef is just a good guy who feels bogged down. His daughters genuinely don't want his feelings to be hurt. They're very comforting to him when he gets criticism. They have nothing bad to say about their father at all. Mike also responded pretty well to the criticism. No one likes being told that they're a bad cook, but after the initial shock of realizing that his food wasn't as good as he thought it was he opened up to improving.
