I absolutely love the slang from the 1910s-1950s era that he uses. My grandpa used to say shit like 'paluka' or "scoun'" and even though I'm not prone to nostalgia, in the least, kinda hits me in the feels. It's perfect guidance, on top of that.

I find this very similar to the 'kizama tsuki' I was taught in shotokan, back in my childhood and teens. I can also testify that this kind of strike can bypass a lot of defenses, and if not it can put you in a position where you are aware of those defenses and assist you in bypassing them.

Dude... you have my gratitude, Coach. I only found your readings of Dempsey cause I was looking for the titles to get them. Glad that I have such giants to elevate my comparatively pathetic skill. At least I have the near-spastic, and certainly - initially - awkward movements entrained into reflexive action (THANK YOU, fencing!), but damn I'm a terrible boxer. Thinking I need to up my Shadow Boxing game *significantly*. You da man, Ramsey.

Just ordered this book. Dempsey was a beast until won the championship. Look at how lean he was against willard compared to when he fought against firpo, carpentier, and tunney. He was the victim of a greedy promotor who always wanted the monster gate $$$. The young tyson was a modern version of dempsey. And like Dempsey he declined because of human nature and management. Even though it sounds corny, they all lose the "eye of the tiger" when they sleep in silk sheets.

Ramsey Dewey what do you as a professional fighter believe about the “power line.” I have actually done Iron Palm and I can hit with both the top fist (index and middle) and bottom fist (which really for me is the middle and second not pinky cause my pinky knuckle doesn’t exist). Even well trained, I have always been taught to use top fist not bottom and I honestly feel that my bottom fist will break (boxers’ fracture) and I can really break five boards with no spacers and patio bricks. I am not bragging, I just feel the average person will Definitely break the bottom knuckles before the wrist breaks. I actually aim with my middle knuckle which is huge cause that is what I hit with and I tend to catch my index (second biggest knuckle). What is your real opinion for a Bare Knuckle average person? And please don’t say elbows or palm heals! I want to know about the punch!! Thank you!

I've never done any boxing. But I have learnt some strange physical skills: - Roller Skating. - croquet - Military rifle drill. Probably the strangest. A rifle is heavy and very asymmetrically weighted with a weird balance point. At first it seems impossible. That you are fighting against the rifle to do any command such as shouldering arms or present arms. That you could in the end become skilful with 100's of other people at the same time felt like a miracle of walking on water. But taught properly that became possible.

This is what they called fa jin in Chinese martial arts, the principle of connected body mass and this is why they used to write that a fist is 70% feet and 30% hands , also the error of double weight or what we consider a balance in ordinary not trained movements,it is pure science and mechanism is working very well, but is hard to find it by yourself , is not something magical, but something which is in every human being, with correct practicing and constant ability to detect and remove errors everyone is able to learn it at least to beginner level.

This video made me think of an inportant point in beginning to learn striking. How does one determine if they should adopt a southpaw or regular stance? Usually one will feel more natural to some people but to others it could be more ambivalent. In that case, is there a test of some sort to help us find out which side is stronger? Obviously there are switch hitters but this may not be convenient for someone who needs to learn the basics first. Also, what are the pros/cons of learning southpaw if you are right handed (or vice versa) but feel comfortable in that stance regardless?

To me it is clear JD had loaded gloves. He never could do that much damage without them. After the fight when JW went to shake his hand, he felt something funny in the glove. Jw's mgr went to check it out and the gloves were lost. Boy that was convenient, later JD said he had the gloves and would not show them to anyone, strike 2. Kearns said afterward the gloves were loaded. To much evidence to show otherwise. JW went 26 rounds with J Johnson and had barely a scratch. Loaded gloves is the only reasonable explanation.

I'm actually quite certain that babies at terminal velocity aren't able to knock somebody out. Nothing in a babies body is hard enough to transmit force onto a small surface area, not even the femur or the skull. Most of it would still be uncalcified cartilage. Not only that but, since the babies body is incredibly malleable it would glance or bounce off anything as if pudding without imparting anything near full force.

Art of martial art. Tao of boxing. Recently I watch something similar, Brian Shaw teach some, the fittest guy how to do deadlift. If you lean back the bodyweight the weight is already in the air without engaging lifting muscle. A month ago I joined the gym. I do only clean and jerk but I am using my legs only for "stealing". I wanna pool, lift and push and in the same time my legs have something to do. In less than the month, I fix my problem with my neck, right shoulder and back. I think you are not the fan of pushing and pressing but please you need to try that. Any anaerobic weight ( less than 20 repetition) can do the job, you don't have to force yourself. Muscle mass, acceleration and teamwork of every muscle in your body. It's like anaerobic rope jumping.
