What about for someone who doesn’t compete? In terms of learning how to fight, say in the first 5 years of your training, should you spar hard sometimes? If so how often?

There are two aspects to your talk which I thought I'd contribute to: 1) if you are an academic doing research on and discussing "cults", and you are asked to define it, there isn't actually any clear difference between definitions of "religion" and definitions of "cult"; for example, all religious founders become divine in some way. The actual difference is that a "religion" is socially accepted and a "cult" is not. That pretty much the only difference, made so due to how their is no universally accepted definition of what a "religion" even is. Then, people are taking the term "cult" out of its religious context and putting it into a "martial arts" context, making the term even more difficult to wrap your head around. It can be a useful shorthand for "this martial art seems more like a religion", but given the amount of seemingly religious underpinnings in so many martial arts, even that isn't a particularly useful form of delineation. Bowing, seemingly worshipping, instructors is, unfortunately commonplace in traditional martial art settings; you get into Aikido, and I have personal experience in how you are basically taught to worship swords (the training swords are treated better than people are). 2) Just a sidenote on your discussion of religious traditions being left behind. According to most research findings, it is the women in the family who tend to carry the "weight" of religious belief and practice for the family. If the father stops practicing their religion, but the wife does, the rest of the family tends to remain religious. But if the mother stops being religious, the rest of the family tends to end their religious practices as well. Just thought that I'd mention that because it's interesting. I read a few academic articles detailing this some time ago but I cannot remember where I read it.

i don't do any of these things, i don't know how to fight, and i don't really mind not knowing how to fight i simply like not getting damaged too much that said, i'm confident I could win against any experienced fighter as long as there was some distance between us, they were distracted, and I had a loaded firearm

simple question: Can I master specific taekwondo kicking techniques by watching youtube tutorials and practicing the techniques a million times every day? It seems to me that the answer is yes as far as knowing the kick, but of course applying the kick is going to be a whole different game. For now I only want to know the techniques though, I will know worry about application when I find a partner.
19:40 Ramsey is clearly lying. Noone's ever had a serious discussion on the internet.

Spent a day in a Krav Maga school, because disarming really interested me. The games you play to warm up, bother me in general in any of these schools, but this just took extremely long until the actual training started (That is what I am here for). The monthly fee you need to pay is insane, and the instructors constantly told everyone, regardless of skill level, that they were "professionals". Let's just say... I wasn't a fan
@corazondelinceКүн бұрын
Krav Maga has for years relied on the reputation of the Israeli army as the best in the world. Since October 7, however, that reputation has come into question. Not to mention that Israeli soldiers hardly ever engage in hand-to-hand combat unless you count beating up captives as hand-to-hand combat.

I don't think even the average BJJer thinks they could take on an untrained aggressive fighter without potentially getting their ass kicked. They start as a black belt get punched , become a blue belt, get punched again, and become a white belt. I've trained muay thai for years but just recently started to train Gracie Jujitsu and even though I do martial arts drills and I spar sometimes with untrained people I would still be scared to fight against someone who is aggressive and has the intent to inflict violence on me. You don't have a guard that blocks everything, you may not be used to the pace, you might be on grass with skinny jeans and worn down sneakers, they could be bigger than you and a lot stronger, you could be in a state of rage and adrenaline you're not use to, hell you can SLIP throwing something. Unless you regularly spar with all these conditions it's too unpredictable. What I specifically train is a long guard. I think it's so good in a self defence situation, especially Jeff Chan's interpretation of it. You can parry, hand trap, relatively protect against hooks, gauge distance, tie or grapple and ties in really nicely with hard, fight-ending elbows. What I do as a drill regularly with sparring partners is literally just 3 rounds of me defending aggression with a long guard. Sometimes I also do this with my friends who are mostly bigger than me with mma gloves. It's a great guard and drill because you'll see how you deal with albeit simulated aggression. But even after all that.... I don't know lol. Just look up the self-dense tournament and you see that even all these super good self-defence martial artists get caught in different ways.

Do you have any experience or tips regarding rucking, carrying extremely heavy loads long distances, that sort of training? I like to carry stuff, actually my favorite training used to be carrying small logs. I just wonder if there is any way to do it more effectively. The strength benefit works great in judo, although my form still sucks. Most throws I do with strength, not with technique, which is bad 😢

Right now, I’m struggling to walk unassisted while doing my best to stave off a total knee replacement. I’ve never rucked on purpose with the intent of exercising. I have spent many years walking many miles every day with a heavy backpack hauling all my gear around. Tips? Keep going.
