I started BJJ around 20 years ago. When dojo storming was a thing in America. It was done to stop the mysticism of martial arts. Fast forward 20 years. Traditional martial arts gyms are a desert compared to MMA/BJJ/Boxing/Muay Thai/Wrestling. It worked.

clearly he was the best of his time. I feel like he might’ve used some alternative methods of training but nothing wrong with that. I watch his fights and its like watching an old timey boxing match. Some of his techniques would be absolutely null now. Theres a kickboxing movement going in Japan and I know any of the top 10 would absolutely crush Benny. Not hating I just like to add a new perspective on things. I think somebody said he doesnt telegraph his spinning back kick well, thats not possible bcuz he’s spinning. a young fighter today would know 9/10 when he is going to throw it but Benny was ahead of the game for his era clearly

Sadly a lot of krav maga studios are not good. Some Krav maga is ok to take what works.. I don't recommend one basing your self defense system on Krav maga alone. Yes you need to train and get physically fit. And train as hard as possible.

The Taeguk are based on applying the principles of Tai Chi to Taekkyon and are a balance and stretch exercise with your basics to warm you up to practice kicks. They are not for fighting at all although the moves can be used for fighting but the Taeguk are progressive coordination, balance and flexibility training. It combines ideas from traditional forms with athletic practice almost like gymnastics. Problem is nobody ever tells you this.

Make the distinction between Traditional Martial Arts and Combat Sport gyms. Problem solved. Traditional martial arts have become closer to dancing while combat sports have really embellished the "combative" nature. This has more to do with the individual gyms than the actual arts I believe.

Hey, so me and my friend have been training mma with just us and our other untrained friendly mostly since I was a white belt in bjj (been blue belt for a bit now). He doesn’t have the money to do bjj and stuff so he only trains mma with me. But today I brought over a blue belt from my gym, and my friend took the blue belt down multiple times and completely dominated him on the ground in mma. My coach is a world champion in bjj at his age division and has lots of people of all belts. It probably doesn’t surprise you but it really proved to me that mma is it’s own sport as you’ve said multiple times. This was honestly one of the most fascinating things I’ve witnessed, and I would’ve never done it had I not listened to your advice a few years ago and got out there and trained mma as it’s own sport. Thank you.

Everyone you mentioned is a well rounded mixed martial artist who cross trains in everything and understands full well what sport they are competing in. Silva, Whittaker, Machida, and GSP are BJJ black belts, Wonderboy a BJJ brown belt & a Japanese jujutsu black belt, and Bas Rutten the literal king of prancrase hybrid wrestling. Not to mention GSP is best known for being the best wrestler in MMA history, in spite of having learned wrestling later in life. (Anderson Silva did not have a karate background, by the way. His first martial arts were taekwondo and Muay Thai, respectively.) That is a far cry from “then they add some ground game”.

The only effective“weapons sparring” I’ve experienced was with prop knives dipped in paint, with the lesson being “Knife fights are stupid, and you should never get into one.” The amount of marks we had after just a minute of “sparring” drove the point home.

Huge respect for Lethwei and Lethwei fighers (they have also some takedowns that are forbidden in muay thai) but this rule of the double knockdown is really stupid and too dangerous for the fighters'safety, at least we are still humans not animals killing each others, love the new muay thai in the cage with mma gloves, at least punches count for real and it is a middle way encounter between boxing gloves and bare knucke fights

Obviously you know NOTHING about Hapkido. I have studied Hapkido, Taekwondo, Aikido, and Kyokushin, Kubudo. When you are grab by a good Hapkido person. It will be on a pressure points or kyusho point. You cannot resist the pain. It always depends on the Martial Artist. Not the style.

i never cared about weightclasses, but i can see why people would want to compete without getting chronically maimed. regardless of stance on the transgender topic, i find it strange that someone's gender identity is deemed more important than my years of effort to be my best self, i don't think one should be held in higher regard because of current politics.

KZbin never showed me this video for some reason - totally agree, especially on the 'first lie' bit. It is way harder to change someone's belief once they have something there than it is to give them that first belief. I'm sure you've run into that teaching martial arts students that come from... less than practical backgrounds. We hate the idea that we've spent so long believing a lie, so it's expedient to continue believing it's true. Accepting you were wrong is hard on many things, especially if it led to you saying something you now realize is heinous about an entire group of people, and it was based on a falsehood.

@@RamseyDewey why do a lot of masters claim that exact thing all the time then?

@@rko2016 Probably becaus they aren't actually amsters, they don't speak Chinese, and they don't know the origin of the terms 内家拳 and 外家拳 often mistranslated as "internal" and "external" martial arts. 内家拳 neijiaquan, means unarmed Chinese fighting styles that originated within the wudang (daoist) tradition. It literally means "inside family/home fist". 外家拳 waijiaquan refers to unarmed Chinese fighting styles (from the same times period) that originated outside of wudang (daoist) tradition. it literally means "outside family/home fist" These are cultural linguistic markers, not an indication of where power is generated. It is even more laughable when you get clowns like Adam Mizner who tell their cult members that "internal" means supernatural power rather than physical force, specifically the power of ergokenesis.

@@rko2016 You are thinking of the principle of 丹田 (dantian- the idea that energy comes from the center of the body close to the diaphram) as taught within the daoist traditions of neijiaquan. Neijia does not refer specifically to dantian. Neijia is a cultural marker for a group of various Chinese martial arts, not directions for how to produce power. There are many frauds and phonies posing as masters here in China. A lot of them are very popular and make a lot of money exploiting people's ignorance.
