Hit up Dave from 3SNY for a fluidampr Dampener. Pampena Motorsports had them custom made for the vr4s. There are two main reasons why the crank takes a walk. A dented oil pan (cant stress that enough) and the stock dampener. Over the years the stock dampeners can split in half. A new one from Mitsubishi is 250+$ if you want to go the stock route the part number is MD177199. Call up Mike over at Cherry Hill Mitsubishi (856)382-2338. That's who everyone on 3si and 3sgto get their parts from. Always the best -Frank G

I think #throtl should keep this VR4.. Guys you can come up with something really quick anyway, keep this car!!
@darkmatterm4a15 жыл бұрын
Great catch on the tensioner. As someone who has had their timing belt tensioner fail on their VR-4, you just saved the next owner a TON of headaches. When you drop the oil pan, make sure you check for metal shavings. 6G72s are NOTORIOUS for spinning rod bearings due to low oil pressure; most often times caused by a dented oil pan. Who knows how long that oil pan's been dented.
@Riskbreaker_Riot5 жыл бұрын
I was going to say. It's notorious because people jack the oil pan. Other than that the bearings are fine. The metal sheet on the bottom of the oil pick up is probably fucked and should be replaced.
@darkmatterm4a15 жыл бұрын
Rood Nverse Agreed. I wouldn't try to repair a dented oil pan: especially in a 3000GT/Stealth. All you have to do is look in the service manual to see JUST HOW LITTLE clearance the pick up tube has; even with an undented oil pan.

@scrapheapshuffle91305 жыл бұрын
Please use factory components whe you do the timing belt. At the very least use a factory hydraulic tensioner. I just did the Timing Belt and Tensioner in the car a few months ago and it blew goats. Might have been better off pulling the motor out like you guys are doing. Also a factory Throw Out Bearing for the clutch should be on the list as well. Previous owner of my car had a shop install a new clutch before I got it and they used a non OEM throw out bearing, which now makes noise at idle with the clutch disengaged. So, I get to drop the tranny and replace the Throw Out Bearing in a few months when it warms up enough to do the job.

oh MAN thats cool when i had a 3000GT i had the clutch replaced at one point and Sure enough i was REALLY surprised at the time how easy the clutch was to push in when i got it back from the shop, i worried something was loose, and it concerned me for a long time lol. (but it was fine, it never had an issue :) its weird because i had a new clutch installed when i first bought the car as well, so over time the clutch slowly but surely must have gotten more and more stiff (throw-out bearing binding) but i didnt notice because it was happening slowly over time. so cool to finally understand what happened there lol

sad when we can't take peoples word any more when they say something about what they done to a engine but at least you all caught it while doing the clutch and this is the best way to do all maintenance on it while the engine is out. But agree I would do rear and front seal at the same time to make sure they are not leaking as well nothing ruins a timing belt faster then oil leaking from front seal.but she is in fine shape considering where it came from being cooked in the desert.

Check the metal sheet that goes over the oil pick up screen. If the oil pan is dented there's a chance that it's fucked. And air can get sucked in on the stock pan. That's why people spin bearings on these cars. They jack the car up by the oil pan and then talk about how it's unreliable lol.
@sledgenwedge5 жыл бұрын
7 degrees before top dead center brown wire that's the only clue I would give anybody else after reading the manual for the Dodge Stealth RT that's what you will find it's as big as a telephone book and it cost me $75 a broken timing belt tensioner cost me $1,100 and if I had to do it all over again I would I loved that car there was never a car in my life that was more fun to drive and it was my first actual hot rod in my opinion and came about it after I was 35 years old
