Bad Chad

Ай бұрын

We're getting closer and closer to having the 1936 Hudson running and driving so we're getting ready to reassemble the front end. When we put the radiator back in place, the bottom outlet no longer matches up to the water pump outlet. We're hoping that we can make it work by plumbing it up with whatever hoses and elbows we have lying around the shop.

Having a Radiator Shop change the Elbow to a straight inlet, and go through the radiator so its clean and has no over heating issues would be the right way to fix it.

Chad you make soldering so difficult. You used enough solder to do that project about 4 times. Heat each joint individually and heat at the end of the pipe that is inside elbow. It will then pull the solder into the elbow. As soon as your done keep heat on and wipe your joints and pipe with a wet rag. This will wipe all your excess solder off plus remove all the flux so it won't turn green.

Chad when you are soldering those joints together on the copper pipes. If you hold your torch at the point where the pipe starts to narrow then warm the pipe all the way around the solder will get drawn into the joint and flow all the way around leaving a clean joint no drips no leaks. copper is hot enough when the flame of the torch starts to turn green at the centre of the flame. 🙂 👍✌

I am sure Nathan could have come up with a better solution to solve the radiator hose problem - because it seems to me the fan blade(s) should have been installed on the front of the water pump first before sorting out the hoses. Others have commented there is the danger of an airlock being formed with the way the hoses are oriented.....time will tell.

When your soldering, your suppose to heat up the flange area of the elbows and that draws the solder into the seams of the pipe.when you do it that way you able to solder things up very quickly. also you can tact a flat piece of metal to the end of those bolts so that it doesn't grind against the end of the bolts.

When your want to have a proper rate of flow of coolant from the radiator to the automatic transmission . . You don't want create 2 many sharp angles for debris to collect in . When the coolant is under heated pressure. If your going to drive the car on short trips . There's less chance of it overheating. Also the degree level thermostat you use has a n impact on the potential of overheating and causing transmission problems . I would also install a heavy duty transmission cooler on the car as well. I'm sure Chad and Jolene will consult with Nate on the final analysis. on this issue
