I made this according to the recipe , it doesn’t taste like bottled but it’s definitely ranch . After making it I thought it needed some thing , but I resisted like the author suggested and let it set up and let the ingredients mingle over night . The next morning to my pleasant surprise I had a keeper , and I didn’t have to tweak it al all . My compliments to the author . TheReaper!

Chef John, as a European I had never tried ranch dressing until two weeks ago, when I made this recipe. Now I understand my American friends who complain they can't get it anywhere here. This stuff is great! How long can I keep it in the fridge? Because I don't want to make it only for barbecues with friends, I want to have ranch everyday with my lunch!
@robertcole93919 жыл бұрын
There's more uses for ranch dressing than just on salad. Try a homemade chicken bacon ranch pizza. Don't knock it till you try it. Grilled chicken strips on pizza dough (no pizza sauce) drizzle the ranch over the chicken, add crumbled bacon, then cover with a generous amount of cheese and bake. Dipping sauce for many items. The use of good ranch dressing will enhance many meals.

Finally got around to making this. I followed pretty much, except my chives were passed their prime. They were gross in fact, so I used minced spring onion which was very fresh. Just the top, greenest parts. And my grocery store didn't have any decent Italian flat leaf, so I bought curly parsley instead. I rather like the flavor of curly better anyway. That flat leaf doesn't have very much flavor, unless it's just what the store carries is low quality? Mixed the rest, even Chef John's addicting Crème Fraîche that I've been making regularly now, and it tastes sooo, sooo good. I just need to clean & chop my celery and carrots and I'll have my sides for the shrimp I'm cooking tonight for supper. Chef John does have the best recipes. I love this channel.💖

I love ranch dressing. It's my favorite. I'm really glad to see it on here as Chef John makes everything so easy and fun to understand. I'm going to finish off the ranch and then try the blue cheese. I have a family of four who also likes ranch, so I doubled the recipe thinking it would last a good while. It's been 5 days and it's almost gone. I think it tastes almost exactly like good ranch used to taste. I used to love the stuff in the bottle, but then it started getting a funny taste. I still really like the ranch you can make with the powder, so maybe they just changed their mayo base for the bottled stuff. The only thing I find different with this recipe is that you get a after hit of dill flavor. I think I like that though. We're making burgers tonight, so I'm gonna have ranch with my fries and try his "steak sauce" on my burger. I do want to try leaving out some of the ingredients and see how it tastes. I understand adding Worcestershire and cayenne, but I don't think you can taste those small quantities. I'll have to make two side by side to see. I'd also like to figure out how to premix my spices and how much of them to add once I do.
@sicariusperemo37892 жыл бұрын
Well sometimes it doesn't take much for you to be able to taste it, and sometimes it's more of an effect than taste, like Cayenne Pepper, just gives things a boost, in small quantities, then no, it won't be strong or flavorful, but just like salt brings out flavor, or cooked down Vodka, which also makes the effect, of bringing out other flavors, Cayenne does the same, and so does Worcestershire Sauce :) Also about premixing spices, it's just a question of math, if you use this mix, you can see that the ingredients are for one batch, so just use double or triple or however many quantities you need :)
@christopherj57804 жыл бұрын
Chef John, ive been watching you since this pandemic started. Ive started to include a dash of cayenne in pretty much everything. Im really liking it.

I tried out this recipe this last week. I ended up having to make an extra batch! It was perfect! Since I can't have blue cheese right now, I had to opt for Ranch to go with my Buffalo wings. It was Great! I'm weird when it comes to mayo and I don't like when dressing taste too much of Mayo. That was far from the case with this recipe! I thought about it, and now that I have all of the ingredients, I may end up just making my own ranch from here on out! This Ranch with hand cut French fries is addictive, to Anyone who enjoys that kind of thing.. lol You've been warned! lol
@Dalton32510 жыл бұрын
I'm working my way through Chef John's great recipes. This one is excellent. I always liked ranch, though in the last few years the bottle ranch has changed and I don't like it. The powder is still good, so they probably just changed the mayo on the bottle. This recipe is quick and super good. The only difference between this and store bought is a stronger dill taste, which I prefer. I do recommend leaving it over night as it doesn't taste right till everything has a chance to sit and combine.

Thanks for the video. About fresh ingredients, my mom makes a cucumber salad with cucumbers, mayo, garlic powder, onion powder, dried dill and pickle juice. Over the years I've improved on it by adding fresh dill, however fresh diced onion, totally ruins it, the onion powder is far superior, and leaving the onion powder out doesn't give it that great taste. Fresh minced garlic, if you eat it the same day, is better than garlic powder, the next day they are about the same and after that garlic powder is better as the fresh garlic grows too strong. I attended a Japanese blue fin tuna cutting event and the fisherman said most people think if you have this sushi on the boat it would be the best, but in reality it wouldn't taste too good. Apparently, like a really good aged steak, tuna has to be hung for a few days to develop that great taste. So fresh is not always best.

Ranch dressing actually originated on a ranch -- the Hidden Valley Guest Ranch near Santa Barbara, Calif. According to the Hidden Valley Web site, the owners made a dressing with herbs, spices and buttermilk in the 1950s, and the dressing caught on with their guests.
