The masks now are confirmed to be causing a significant rise in respiratory distress and failure. They didn't protect to begin with and our bodies were not intended to be breathing in our own waste. I've only worn a mask to the store and only stay in the store 1/2 hr. That's it. At work the masks started causing me problems. So I left my job. Had to. Building up my own immune system because once its destroyed your body won't be able to fight off anything as it had in the past. You did the right thing, I feel. And truthfully I feel great. Eating right, taking vit D, zinc, K, going for walks in the sun. I wish you the best.

The biggest problem here is that Dr. Fauci likely doesn't see it worthwhile to answer Sen. Paul's questions. I think both are at some deal of fault. Fauci wants to keep the discussion on track. Paul will bring up points that have a basis of truth but ultimately have little to no relevance on the real-world situations we find ourselves in. Therefore Fauci tries to deflect the discussion away from such confusing information. However, not answering the question at all doesn't rub off well on the public, and trying to get Paul to understand anything other than what he's trying to confirm is like talking into a 5-foot-high stereo. And it's honestly not a good discussion practice. It would be much better if Fauci could acknowledge & answer the questions posed to him, THEN continue on to provide a rebuttal & why the point is moot. Unfortunately the DC political atmosphere is too fast-paced and less respectful to the speaker than a high school debate.

I am usually on the side of Rand Paul here, but to be fair, the thing Faucci spoke about is true this time. The variance of the virus does affect the ability for a vaccine or antibodies to protect against another infection. But at that point, it is not a reinfection, it is a new infection. The variance in viruses can stem from the same origins, but become a completely different virus by the end of the journey. The part that I agree with on Rand Paul's side though is that if there is not a large enough group affected by these variants, then there is no need to treat it like another pandemic. It should be treated normally and addressed on a case-by-case basis, not used to throw people into a panic and force people to wear 12 masks out of fear. That is what hospitals are for, and the masks and lockdowns were only supposed to help flatten the curve so we had the ability to treat the amount of people falling ill to it. The curve is flattened, and we are able to handle the volume. That should be the end of it.

South African here - I was stuck in 10 day isolation with a household in which there were 3 positive cases of the new "variant" Fauci mentioned here. I figured I was doomed to get it in this scenario, accepted my fate and lived freely without a mask ,or sanitization (I mean I showered each day lol, but no hand sanitizers or social distancing etc.) after 10 days, I got 2 tests (nasal swab and DNA test), both came out negative and the new 'aggressive strain' didn't kill any of the positive cases, or infect anyone else in the household. When? Did you get an antibody test? The 80% accuracy of a standard test needs to be done at an exact time to be even that accurate. But antibodies test are easy and only show that specific virus, and are reliable. People have some amount of immunity with asymptomatic infection. You could if had it before them without knowing it, outside of antibodies test, you can't know that.

Therefore, masks are important to continue to wear well into 2022 until we 1) vaccinate enough to reach immunity and 2) to decrease the risk on an increase of spread of a 3rd variant of covid (especially to people who haven’t caught the virus at all). Just look at the charts of "cases" of various states when they issued mandates and restrictions. There is no causality in mask mandates and any significant decrease in "cases." Tom Woods has a site where they put these graphs together to show lockdown states do just as well as non-lockdown states.
