My freshman year of high school, I joined percussion on a whim. I hated it. I wasn’t good at it, and it wasn’t like piano at all, and how was I even supposed to hold those freaking drumsticks???? Then, my band director pulled out this song. I was assigned that epic vibraphone part, repetitive but challenging all in one. And just like that, I was HOOKED. Now, I’m going into my senior year of high school, coming off of a perfect rating at state for my marimba solo and a nomination for exemplary performance. I am in marching band, concert band, percussion ensemble, jazz ensemble, steel pan band, and pit orchestra, all for percussion. And this summer, I’m heading to a two-week percussion camp that’s going to prepare me to pursue percussion as a career for the rest of my life. Thank you for this song. Thank you for encouraging me to push through the hard parts and follow my dreams ❤
