The thing I like most about this race is that the cars perform completely different than a regular race without ice. The best cars you can ask for in this race are usually the cars you wouldn't expect

I look forward to this race all year. I've watched the previous ones in the run up to this one. The limiting the off road traction loss did make this better from a racing point of view but from my point of view it did cost the event some of its specialness, seeing the best cars go flying and spinning completely out of control was so entertaining, it made the race really special. Now it feels like just another 50 minute random all, which is an admittedly high bar to set. A place for both versions of this event in 2023? maybe one with the crazy ORTL but only 25 minutes?

Very entertaining! Yes, some floodlights for the night would be really cool on this track. Btw are the offroad-traction-loss stats for many cars other than the racecars selected quite weird on PH. Why, for example, has the A-Type (or the Tornados) such a low value? It has incredibly thin tires and one would expect it to have low grip.

The family doesn't watch any Christmas movie together. I am watching this for at least the 3rd time now, alone. Maybe it becomes a tradition for me! I think I found a conceptual issue with the random mode where you play through all cars in random order, but the list is shared among all players and there are no duplicates. Perhaps you even have a list of all remaining cars. The winner would be the one with most rounds but also the best time if there is a round tie. The issue being that if you are on the last 31 cars and a lap ahead of most others. Waiting before the finish to avoid getting something like a dozer(if it's remaining in the list, or you haven't seen it on the track yet if no list is provided and players have to remember). The risk here is that someone only a round behind might manages to lap an opponents and gets an extra round. Even if it's the dozer, they will have more rounds. Nor sure if there are other conceptual issues or if the implementation is difficult. Would love to see how convoluted these custom scripts are, but I never looked into those third party servers.

they have much higher offroad traction loss, meaning they are worse on this type of surface

if you're not joking; on the ice props an offroad traction loss of 1.7ish or higher will give them literally zero grip and turn them into hockey pucks at the mercy of momentum and other players. The race cars used to run roughly OTL 2, and now are currently running 1.4-1.6 to reflect their slick tyres :) If you ARE joking, yeah its a mystery....

Tornado IS counted as offroad by vanilla GTA as its secondary category, similarly to how some of the motorcycles are also offroad, or how the tuners are also sports.

That only applies to the mariachi tornado (and the secondary class for the tuners is actually “tuners” - their primary class is sports).
