Is there a name for that style of lantern? I remember a similar one around our house growing up but I think it had a red lens on top as well. I wouldn't mind doing the nod to one, if I can find one, it looks very cool. Totally relate with not having space, I have 15 ride on mowers now and I'm cramming them everywhere

+Rinoa Super-Genius schweeeet. Off to eBay I go! Hey seeing your old computers reminded me, I had a second gen Commodore 64 and also a Tandy TRS80, then an Amstrad and a Commodore 64, then an IBM 386, and a 486 growing up. I think I paid $300 for my C64 new and everything else was second hand.

+TheAussieStig30 Normally the a lantern with a white and red lens fit on the end of a train of passenger cars as what in the industry is referred to as a rear end protection device and the red light projects backward as a warning to trains approaching the rear. The opposite white end faced forward and showed across the back of the passenger car sides to make it easy to see from other directions. Our steam train association has two that fit on either side of the rear passenger car. This was especially desirable because in steam locomotives the crew could not see directly ahead. With the red lights on both sides of the last car, either the fireman or engineer would see a red light. Freight trains had cabooses that had a removable lights that were green in 180 degree direction and red in the other 180 degree direction. The crew in the caboose could take these lanterns off at night and get on the ground and use them to signal by showing the red side or green side and waving it various patterns.

+Lewis Doherty cheers for that. My pop did work in Clyde engineering in Sydney where steam trains were made and repaired so that is probably where it came from. My memory of it is a red light on top and a clear light on the side like the one in this video, but it was probably 30 or more years ago now. I remember it was hammercoat green and had a chrome slide switch on it and from memory you could have both lights on at the same time, or select one or the other.
@lewisdoherty76219 жыл бұрын
My maternal grandfather had the caboose version. It disappeared and was probably stolen. The various Australian state systems appear to be a hybrid of about three-quarter American practices and equipment, and about one-quarter British practices and equipment. It might be white represents clear, if there are just red and white signal lights for train movement. I remember the signals in the Washington Metro system were red for stop and white for clear. I think if a switch was open, it was yellow and if the switch was aligned to the main line, it was green. So a switchman's lantern would show white moved up and down for forward, show white in a circular manner for reverse and show red for stop. Green and yellow might have been just reserved for switch position lights. I believe the British system uses a four light system that has red, one white light, two white lights and green.

Just a quick question about the Citicar project. Wouldn't it be much less effort to convert it to Lithium-iron-phosphate (LiFePO4) batteries? As far as I know, they handle similar to Li-ion packs, have a lower nominal voltage but they pack many more amp-hours. Plus they are a bit bigger and most of them have screw-on terminals directly on the cells. I know they are a bit tough to find, especially when Lio-ion cells are a dime a dozen. Certainly would be something I'd take a look at if I were to convert an entire car. Hahah. :-)
@MrJamesonStyles9 жыл бұрын
5:25 DEEP CYCLE BATTERY SCORE! But man, the amount of weight reduction you'll get with li-ion. You'll fly! I think this next battery pack will have to be a step forward. Spot welded tabs... otherwise I think you'll lose your damn mind soldering several hundred cells individually.

Never seen any Space Invader bootlegs before, even cooler that it's a cocktail. I have 7 arcade games, but they are mostly from the 1980-1982 range, except for Smash TV from the 90s.

+sandman x its not a bootleg, its a licensed rebranding of it.

+JRushPixel no sorry, i'd recomment just buying one of those from ebay and adding more cells.
@AdammP9 жыл бұрын
+cidreck dela cruz They're that cheap anyway it wouldn't be worth the effort making your own. unless you really wanted to just bunch a few 18650's together and buy a voltage regulator module with lcd display to monitor the output., you can buy the modules pretty cheap too, under $15 easily. if you wanted more voltage u can even add a step-up converter. > i mean for other purposes, not for charging a mobile phone as the usb output is 5volts and anywhere from about 500mA - 2A current depending on phone model.
