It was very strange and interesting to first see this during 2023 and hear you speak from the beginning of covid when no one knew what was going to happen and everyone was terrified. I can't thank you enough for being a voice of calm. I hope people took in your words and were comforted. I had to unsubscribe from a few youtubers who had seemed like sensible people before it all started but who were freaking out. And you were absolutely right -- I quickly realized I had to turn off the news almost entirely. This was a great video, a real public service. 💜

Hi all 👋 Do think what would happen if someone else suddenly had to pack up your entire home. My brothers & I had to do this when my Dad went into aged care, after my mum passed away. It took a month of sorting, saving, discarding, attempting to sell & finally donating. Others commented on how well we (as siblings) all got along. I never thought too much about it until I had friends (one lost her partner & another lost her mum) who found themselves in a similar situation. In both cases it caused tension & hurt between close family members. The moral - be kind to your family & don't (even unintentionally) cause disharmony- declutter your own stuff.

lmao, these old hags think their stuff is treasure. it is 100% JUNK! NO ONE wants it! this is why at age 47, I own very little property which can easily fit inside of a simple compact sedan. we all have to die and there is zero point in collecting things as we age other than if you plan to flip them such as an expensive baseball card that is insured but that is another topic. people collect nonsense knick knacks

Peter, you have become my Mentor. You are the only one who has been able to help me on my huge journey to declutter my home. After 50 years it is a huge job and thanks to you I have done the loungeroom in the last few weeks which made me feel so good. It is very hard and I have such a long way to go though I know with your help and reading your books, watching all your vids and just hearing your wisdom will get me through. I cannot thank you enough for saving me from my own stuff. God bless, Donna xxx

Nice, Peter. Love that you brought into the "organization world", a sense of what we have made things become to us. Before you, we never heard about this, only that we had to be more orderly. I had no idea where to begin. Now I think of you and the things you taught us, whenever I start to clean up a mess.

I am very lucky in that my parents have pre-planned for most things at this time my mom to clutters a box of items every week or so if not more, I know the few things I am taking from the house. The hardest part will be going through photos but we only have about 10 albums so we could easily divide them up in order to process them. I feel very lucky because I've had friends who had to go through housefull 2 things had never thought about what they would want or not want and had miserable months of work ahead of them and very cluttered and angry situations.

If I lived alone, it would be so easy to live clutter free, but my husband is a pack rat. He doesn't like to throw anything away. If he decides to donate a box of items to Goodwill, he rewards himself with 5 boxes of new items and clothing! I am not getting anywhere with cleaning and have thought about leaving. My husband and I are both guilty of collecting our interests. After 50 years of marriage I am finally getting my mojo to dump all the tubs of clothes I haven’t worn for YEARS! As he sees my progress and how nice the empty space looks, I’m hoping he will catch on and re-home the award clothes he got from his employer all the years. (I dare not touch them)😏. Your husband sounds like a keeper, junk and all. Unlike your hubby the junk is material and can disappear some day. Give him time.

I don’t understand why Peter Walsh is “not” on A&E Hoarders or TLC’s Hoarding: Buried Alive. He should’ve been part of these shows instead of being on Oprah, Rachael Ray, The Living Room, et. al.!!!
@shelby4699
@shelby4699 Жыл бұрын
I just found out (in a Clutterbug Podcast episode interviewing Matt Paxton from Hoarders) that Peter Walsh was asked to be on Hoarders, but he didn't want to do it so he pointed them in the direction of Matt Paxton who had been emailing him for work!
@ElChupacabra77B
@ElChupacabra77B Жыл бұрын
@@shelby4699 If Peter Walsh recommended Matt Paxton, in place of himself, then he just aced himself out of the opportunity of a lifetime, by making his competition look good, and himself look stupid. I believe in an interview he says he has a strong aversion to hoarding shows, and is not equipped to deal with that kind of thing, because he thinks it doesn’t work. If he is very sincere about it, then he shouldn’t be on television anymore, and should not have agreed to be part of that Clean Sweep program in the first place, because that’s where it’s going to get him eventually. Also he needs to be automatically and permanently disqualified from making more television and media appearances as a professional organizer or a behavioural psychologist until he either retires or pursues a career in something else, and lambasted, raked over the coals, and corporally punished for his decision and thoughts on it. If he got saddled with having to do a hoarding show, and put on a brave face and sucked it up, and did it to the best of his abilities, the hoarders would have been closer to better, and it would have been a hit. But alas, it appears to me that Peter is incapable of handling adversity, stress, obstacles, inconvenience, grief, envy, anguish, disappointment, tragedy or defeat, and cannot stand to fail, or get frustrated, flustered, and antagonized in front of his fans, friends, family, and associates. Plus he is proned to ulcers, high blood pressure, migraines and other health issues. He does not pursue this job to help people with their clutter problems at all. He’s only in it for money, fame and power.

@@ElChupacabra77BPeter Walsh has helped thousands of people around the world.He has a show in his native Australia....why is he under any obligation to work in the usa..a foreign country.Australia is a fabulous place..maybe he wants to be home w his family.he has books and internet resources.maybe he is not comfortable working w pathological hoarders bc that is a dsm V defined mental disorder and he is not a psychiatrist.he is free to pursue his career how he wants.why all the hate?
@ElChupacabra77B
@ElChupacabra77B Жыл бұрын
@@pwood6532 I do “not” hold a complete dislike towards Peter Walsh. I think he has a gift or an ability, but he is “inappropriately” using it. The reason why I’m shitting on Peter Walsh and HIS life and destination/reputation is because I think he blew an opportunity to help a certain type of person he was intended for and he made his competition look good and himself “look” stupid. Sure my opinion offended a lot of his fans, but I am very sure that they need to see this “clutter of words” to put them in for a rude awakening, and see this semi-douchebag for what he really is. Peter Walsh’s mission in life is to help assist, control and educate a very specific type of individual. I immediately think of a hard core compulsive hoarder with a severe hoarding disorder, not your typical run of the mill human being who wants to declutter. I believe that if I don’t post a comment that will knock him down for making a stupid idiotic decision that he could easily regret later on, everyone else will leave him off the hook, and I’m not one of those people who would. If Peter Walsh doesn’t get saddled with a hoarding show, or his show Space Invaders doesn’t get merged with a hoarding show, then something is wrong with the world we are living in and the system it’s being run under. I also believe that these hoarding shows need Peter Walsh, because he is the type of person that is needed to steer them in the right path, and pound certain points into their head very intensely. To me professional organizers like Peter are basically tools you place in a box, and take out when and wherever you feel they are needed to be used, and put them back (in the box) when you are finished using them. Peter Walsh doesn’t like being seen as a tool that is there to do a certain job and be put in a box, and wants to be worshipped by many couch potatoing housewives who tune in and view him as an icon, a god, the ‘king of organizing’ and an idol. Looking back at the times I’ve seen him, I think it’s an outrage that this guy was where he was when Hoarders aired on A&E, and that he could’ve been better than what he was. I feel the same way about other organizers of his calibre who do television, but won’t do the Hoarders shows. If the execs or the powers that be refuse to let his show Space Invaders air in any country other than Australia, it’s probably because they’ve gotten around to my way of thinking. The hoarding shows are the current trend on television, and those decisions of what people should or shouldn’t watch on the stations they have are made by psychopathic C.E.O.’s who run the corporations for money, power, and control. If you’re not with the current trends, or what the C.E.O.’s want from you, you won’t get any airtime, and your services won’t sell. Plus Peter Walsh is a control freak by nature. I don’t think he’s really in the business, because he likes decluttering and helping people create a better vision for a healthy organized space at all, nor does he have interest in solving problems for families or married couples. He’s basically a media personality who makes appearances to promote a business, and only gets involved in these types of projects for the sake of money, fame and power for entertainment purposes. I am writing it that way, because that’s my understanding why he doesn’t want to take part in the hoarding shows his contributions toward decluttering were intended for. He wants the show he’s involved in to be directly about him being Superman and doesn’t want to have the limelight snatched from his fingers. I also think he’s on an ego trip, and he’s just there strictly to promote a business. That’s why you see him in the media a lot.

Buy rolls of electrical tape in assorted colours ( you can get them at a thrift shop). Work out colour code - example blue to keep, red to donate, etc. Start sorting but at this stage just get rid of rubbish, & colour tag the rest. This way you can do a shelf at a time & even though you are keeping a heap of stuff in the short term, it will be a quick sort next time. (It may also help to start a written list for each colour as sometimes you find things that should go together. Leave the lists on the shelf with the stuff you sorted.) Maybe then someone can help you, but they won't be making decisions for you - I think a lot of people fear getting help for that reason. Happy sorting. 😊

Also something else, if Peter Walsh doesn’t want us wearing our sweats during the lockdown, even if we’re comfortable in them, I challenge him to a decade of no jeans 🚫👖!!! Thereby getting rid of any pair of jeans👖 he owns or wears for one decade and in place of them, extra pairs of dress pants for suits and ties!!! The challenge for Peter would be to whenever he feels like wearing jeans 👖 for comfort, to shun getting in to a pair, get into a suit and tie, in place of jeans👖 for a full decade. That way he’ll understand how some of us feel when we have to be challenged with being removed from our sweats. 🚫👖 Peter!!!

I still do not understand why this idea of decluttering downsizing and letting stuff go will make me feel better. I like stuff. I like a lot of stuff. Why do i have to live to this guys idea of what is the right amount of stuff. I get that some things are just rubbish and need to be thrown away. Thats fine. Rubbish is rubbish. I however like the look and form of some things. I enjoy reading and listening to music watching films and art and making stuff. I find him condescending and a little offensive and somewhat arrogant. Like he knows whats best for everyone and that everyone is exactly the same. Like people who have a lot of stuff have a mental problem. I think he may have the mental problem an obsession with cleaning out homes and throwing away other peoples things. Like he needs to do this for a living and likes being told he is an expert at this decluttering may have just gone to his head a little. Just saying letting it go is one thing but you have to have some sound rational behind it. Just getting rid of things may not be the best idea. I keep a lot of screws and hardware i have for many years and if i were to buy these things now from a hardware store it would cost me a fortune. Yes i do use it all the time.

That’s ok if you don’t want to change things and possibly feel better in your home. These ideas/ methods/ guidance is for people who feel that decluttering, downsizing will help them live a better, less stressful life by not spending their whole lives maintaining and organising and reorganising stuff, instead replacing that with fulfilling activities , hobbies and just in general anything else that they enjoy.
