This is a great idea for a reading challenge. You could even do a week/weekend one and on days you have less hours (say 4 & under) you can have a little fun activity you have to do, where you can talk to us while discussing what you read - like baking/cooking, doing a small puzzle, etc.

I read this earlier in September and it completely hooked me. I totally agree that it would be a great book club discussion. I’m not in a book club, but my husband and I had a great discussion about the different themes in this book, specifically regarding language and communication. Also, regarding audiobooks, I cannot listen to audiobooks at 1X speed. They speak way too slowly. And I get it. Voice actors typically get paid for the number of hours of the finished product, not on a job by job basis. So it’s in their best interest to speak slowly and clearly. But it’s in MY best interest to crank it up to 2.5-3x speed. 😂

when you mentioned how the main character had the police change the way they spoke about su*cide, it made me recall how in Stephanie Soo's video on Coco Lee, she said that "coco chose to leave" and I think that is such a gentle, kind way to talk about su*cide. like with this book, no one "commits" to being in a circumstance that the only viable way out of it is to d*e. I've always been so upset over the victim-shaming mentality some people seem to take when discussing such a hard topic as su*cide, it's very refreshing to see that a main character is making a point to shift that negative narrative. ive been debating on putting this book into my tbr and your video has convinced me to go for it!! 🧡🧡

Love this video! I put a hold on the audiobook on Libby, even though this is not typically a book I would read. At the end of your video you talk about the author saying to look back at your life and see all you have accomplished and strived for. I started to agree, but then thought of my dad that passed away and my cat and I think this can only be happiness with material things or if you haven’t lost someone. I’ll still read the book based on your enthusiasm!

Hi Gabby! Loved this video! I wanted to say that I think it's a capricorn thing to be pessimistic/realistic when approaching things because I was explaining this to someone that I love being right so much that I don't mind thinking things are bad and they are because at least I'm right 😅 I also wanted to recommend Yolk by H.K. Hey Gabby, not to nitpick but a lot of autistic people prefer identity first language (autistic person) instead of person first language (person with autism), which you used in the video. Obviously every autistic person can call themselves whatever they want, but this is the general rule. If you (or anyone reading this) want to educate yourself/learn about why we prefer identity first language regarding autism (it can be different for other disabilities/mental illnesses), I suggest the article "Identity first language" by the Autism Self Advocacy Network. Great video! /gen

Hearing that Grandma's point of view of pessimistic optimism....it resembles to toxic positivity. Telling someone who might be going through their share of struggles that why are you being so upset see that other person, they have been going through worse so there it kinda invalidates the feelings of the person who has been suffering....hearing you talk about pessimism felt different. I too consider myself a pessimist...keeping our expectations low so no failure can wreck us too much. But of course there are some exceptions.

I think I read somewhere that depending on where you live, committing suicide or even attempted suicide is actually a crime. Some laws consider that to be murder or attempted murder. Again, depending on where you live you could even be arrested for attempting suicide (take what I said with a grain of salt, I have no idea if this is actually true, but if it is then it explains why police say "commit" suicide as if it's a crime.)

Yes being grateful for what you have instead of thinking on what you don't have. I need to work on that and it is biblical concept. Not trying to preach but prosperity preachers have given a bad light on Christianity. When Jesus was here he was not rich and taught being grateful and giving to other in need.🙂 Be blessed.
