Random Photos around Port Talbot | 2005 - 2009

Over the last decade, technology has advanced to allow us to document almost anything, that along with the rise of plug and play external drives has created a treasure trove of information of the past.
2005 doesn't seem like that long ago, but if you stop and think, it was 12 years ago! 2005 was the first year I'd had my own camera phone, and I have a habit of snapping random stuff. Most people delete or lose these slices of randomness, or just don't capture them in the first place, but I've kept all my little bits and pieces, and thought I would share them, as our towns and landscapes are ever changing, they make nice little reminders for nostalgic value.

Came across this site by accident. I was surprised to find in first photo of St Helier Drive the man standing in the garden is my father. We moved there in 1957 when I was 6 years old. I am now 70. They lived in that house for 63 years. Dad Passed away 2013 aged 89 , my mother in 2015 aged 87. Many memories of growing up there. RIP both.

Came across this by page by chance. These photos have brought back so many wonderful memories of my childhood and growing up in Port Talbot 🙂. seeing my family home and the gentleman I called uncle Viv standing on his front garden in St Helier drive, both Viv and his wife Lil were very much a big part of my life back then, such wonderful neighbours.

When I was a young boy, there was no Afon Way. No Baglan Industrial Park. No M4. Between the estate and the A 48 was what we called The Pills. Trees shrubs, slow moving waterways. Birds. Fish. Hares. Voles. Eels. Huge sand dunes and fresh water shallow lakes. What a crying shame, all now buried under furnace slag.

Lived in Old Rd Baglan after being born in Neath General Hospital.Looked out on most of those views from home.My father worked in the Whitford Works which was absorbed by British Steel.Lovely calming video.

THE worst atrocity that NPTCBC ever did was to demolish Beach Hill ... just think of the millions of people who walked over there to go to the beach in the decades gone by ... what's there now is a complete eyesore
