It is not difficult to prove why it works. Also, I think that the number you ask must be 2-9 and not 1-9, because if he picks 1 and you put 9 cards at the bottom, when you get the 9 you had marked you will have 9 more cards to count and you will have to add the last one.

51 works for me. (I just tried it to be sure.) You stop when you see the marker card no matter. Spectator doesn't care because they don't know what you are doing. Thanks for checking and for your feedback

@@trapdoormagic I just wanted to say that when you will be le left with 9 cards left, you have to count these cards and you must add the last card. So the requirement must be 2-8. Anyway, this is a wonderful trick.

@@EfthymiosZamprakos Sure...you can do that - but you don't HAVE to count the last few cards after the marker because the spectator doesn't know what is happening. You can stop at the marker and they won't know any difference. That way you can use 1 thru 9. But if you think it looks weird to do that, then you can certainly alter what digits you use. Double check your setup and make sure you are putting the face up card on the pile on the last number when you count.

Yes, 1 works fine (51). Make sure you are moving 9 cards when you do your "shuffling" and also make sure to put your Aces on the pile correctly. That can mess it up. But I've tested it many times with 1....although most people won't choose that digit anyway.

@ Just tried 51 again. Every time, the value of the second to last card always ends up on me ending on the last nine and having to lay it down. This brings the total value too high. I go 10 down to ace, then place a 9 on the ace. If I am supposed to put the other aces somewhere, I am not sure where?

@@shelly.4129 I'm not sure what is happening there. 51 works for me...but the good news is that of you ask for a number BETWEEN 1 and 10 no one ever picks 1 or 10. If they do, its easy to redirect them, so it doesn't ever have to be an issue. So far all of my tests work with 1 (51), but maybe there is an exception somehow in the math that I can't see.
