Just viewed this. Very good video except for the riser-tread calculation. You should note that the 2R + T = 600 only works well for risers between about 150 and 200 (6" to 8"). Outside this range I have found the formula R/T = tan [(R-3)*8°] using inches works very well. (I think this would be R/T = tan {[(R-76)/25.4]*8°} in metric.). I have used this many times, and it never fails to provide comfortable stairs. My favorite pitch is 4 5/8" riser and 20" tread (117 x 508) which I used for some stairs in my garden. Very easy to walk up and down.

In this video we have seen 194 mm riser but may this riser too high. Generally we suggest 150 mm riser most of.
@randomarchitecturenotes-na809
@randomarchitecturenotes-na809 4 жыл бұрын
There are, predominantly, two types of staircases. Namely public and private. In public the riser is taken as 150 since there will be a new person coming all the time. So this should be comfortable. But in private we can increase it to 7 inch or 7.5 inch. Even that is comfortable. This is in residences. If the riser will be 150, the staircase will need more floor area. In residences, this can be a problem. Regards

@@jitendrashah205 Definitely. You choose dimensions according to your users, as I replied in my other comment also. In this video, I'm just giving you a tool; I am also mentioning what, generally is used. Now its upto the architect to decide what suits the best for their client.. You must have seen old structures where the rise was much more, sometimes 12 inch. Your concern is genuine, and I respect that.

Very nice sir....should a step start clockwise or anti clockwise.....there is a doubt in it sir....
@randomarchitecturenotes-na809
@randomarchitecturenotes-na809 6 жыл бұрын
Hello, If the design allows, then it should be clock wise. Now what does that mean? A staircase has two types of traffic. First: those who are climbing up or down from the beginning to the end (when there are more than one floor above ground. Second: Those who join the staircase in the middle level Thus in specific designs, clock wise/ anti clockwise will depend on visibility of the landing and other persons moving for those joining a staircase. There should not be any collision between different traffic. It may also depend on the system we are used to. For example, in India, in general traffic we are used to left hand drive. in staircase also we move on one side and allow the coming traffic to move on the other side. So clock wise will be useful here. Is there a rule. I'm not aware of any.

At 9.44 , do you mean dotted line by continuation line? for the intermediate floor? or should we just depict it by a lighter colour?
@randomarchitecturenotes-na809
@randomarchitecturenotes-na809 4 жыл бұрын
I could not get you at the point specified by you. I will still like to clarify that condition. In intermediate floors, we see one set of two flight going up and one set of two flight going down. The diagonal continuation line gust differentiates them. But their depiction will be the same, as firm elevational line. No use of dotted lines here.

To add more to your good explanation . The width of the landing should be the width of the flight + the width of the tread ? For example if the width of the flight is 120 cm.and the width of the tread is 30 cm.so the width of the landing will be 150cm.as you mentioned more than the width of the flight. The hight of the floor should be decided by deciding the hight of the riser so as not to end up with a riser hight with decimals difficult to execute? So if we chose a comfortable riser hight of 16cm. By 20 steps = 320 cm.= floor to floor hight ? Thanks and well don.
