Thank you for the detail. I have been always curious why handrail geometry awfully breaks and found a solution in extending both the midway treads but you got it better. Keep up the good work!

Thanks. Also should note that the first and last step of a starcaise usually differ from the remaining step as far as structural dimension is concerned so that all steps are equal in terms of finished dimensions. The first step should be made higher by the thickness of floor finish (say 50mm.) and the last step made lower by the thickness of floor fisnished (again say 50mm). There is also a cutting made at the back of the first step so that it can be plastered (usually a min. of 300 or preferred 450mm).

Thank you for your video. However in your case 2, the height of the handrail while standing at the landing will be higher than the height of the handrail from the staircase pitch line. Instead of extending the last step at the landing of the downwards staircase by one step, you should have pushed back the first step at the landing of the upwards staircase by one step. That way, your handrail height will always be consistent and they will still meet at the landing, while maintaining your clear width of the staircase at the landing. My 2 cents.

Thanks for this clarity! I came to watch the video solely on how to make compliant handrails at the dog leg. Case 1 isn't IBC compliant. I see from your explanation Case 2 could be compliant! Unfortuantely handrails are the afterthought to stair design and I see why many Inspectors miss it or turn away! I just don't know hot to correct in the field. eeep

sir what is floor landing
@nakuldhagat6 жыл бұрын
Hello, There are two types of landings. Mid landing: the landing between two or more flights. It is a relief space. after one climbs some number of steps, it is the space to take rest. It is also useful when, if, a person falls from a flight, he/ she gets some space to recover. Imagine falling from a big series of steps. Floor landing: the space before the first step or after the last step is the staircase landing. It is not always that a staircase starts or ends into a room or directly on to a corridor. sometimes (in good designs) it starts or ends on to a small space which allows the user to first take some breath and then join the main traffic of corridor or room. This is the landing. Hope this helps

Thanks for your feedback. As the name suggests, there is a part- 1 of the series. There I have defined the same. I will try to improve the sound. Thanks again

@@randomarchitecturenotes-na809 Thanks for your quick response. The 2nd question that I want to know - is wall support essential to a flight/staircase? And what should be the design of staircase in case of no wall support to the flight. It is now cleared that what is dog legged stairecase. Thanks with regards.
@randomarchitecturenotes-na8093 жыл бұрын
@@Organicbharat21 Staircase, in itself, can be self standing also. You may have a support in the space in the middle of the two flights, to support the steps which may cantilever out. There may be other ways to do it.
