Thank you. I think it's kinda a significant distinction that needs to be better defined. They cover a good bit of the thing but it's... so frustrating how unclear that line is. Yeah you can be more than one subculture but... alot of times Individuals in ANY sort of subculture genre tend to gatekeep and require certain "criteria" to "not be a poser" and seeing some open minded legit goths... it could be of great value.
@epicslay8 ай бұрын
hello! I think I'll be able to help make the line clearer, once you learn a little more it does generally become easier to understand! Both goth and emo are music based subcultures, however, they listen to very very different music. Us goths listen to genres like post-punk, gothic rock, dark-wave, ethereal wave, some sections of the subculture like cybergoth also listen to industrial and ebm Music, however, emos generally listen to pop-punk, numetal, etc, bands like motionless in white, linkin park, etc. whereas goths listen to bands like the sisters of mercy, joy division, siouxsie and the banshees, Molchat doma, etc! hope this helps ❤@@yourfriendlyinternetmeatshield

@@epicslay I'm aware of which bands are which, but I'd like a technical breakdown on the sound. Occasionally I'll hear a band, like Dead On A Sunday, for example who sounds very goth to me, but they describe themselves as an emo band. But their is not at all what I think of as the emo sound-- I think of My Chemical Romance, Taking Back Sunday, Fall Out Boy, etc as the emo sound. No one's ever given me a breakdown of the technical musical differences. They just talk about the origins and which bands are goth. I'm interested in *why* they are goth.

You two are cool AF! I'm a old retired hardcore biker. Not so much these days but back in he 80's bikers were regarded similarly by the mainstream. I'll not lie, I have always found Goth ladies attractive. Only it wasn't just their appearance. There was a mystique too. My favorite music is thrash metal. Until this day Motorhead is my ultimate band. Often at the NYC metal shows my path would cross with Goth folks. Everyone I ever met was nice, not judgmental of my way of life. It was easy to strike up a conversation about music and then other topic. Almost always the Goths I met were quite intelligent and well spoken. I enjoyed that out two cultures so easily got along. Perhaps the fact that we all were considered outcasts and misfits by society. I don't know. Your video was great! And didn't mean to ramble so much. Either The Cure or Bauhaus as main course, maybe some Daft Punk or Justice on the side, Phil Collins or A-ha or other 80s stuff, maybe some Suicidal Tendencies for seasoning, and Gorillaz for dessert. On another note, I think wearing black as a goth is "recognizable" especially when paired with a goth band t-shirt, and personally I like it, but I feel like honestly if it's for the outside onlookers, they will just confuse you for emo anyway 😂

I personally have never liked the misuse of the term Emo. Emo came from Punk, and the term Emo was derived from more emotive music. It was Punk music that was more about how you felt or were feeling and relationships and stuff. Somehow that got started to be used to describe something entirely different. A good actual true Emo group was Rainer Maria, they were a good example of an Indie Emo group. Most Indie groups of the early 2000s were actually Emo, but since Emo had been subverted into something else, the term Indie was used. A good song by Rainer Maria is Southpaw, you can hear everything Emo had turned into, since it's creation in the late 80's and early 90's.

You should see a resurgence of Goths or anyone who would be obsessed with death as a result of the Pandemic and a general downturn in the economy. More deaths, result in more behavior based on this theme. I was taught in history classes that during the "Plague", the Black Death during the Middle Ages people started to wear allot of silver and skull rings and such to remind them that Death could strike at any moment. We also saw this during the Victorian Age as people crammed into the cities and there was allot of disease.

I have a very important question. It is an established fact that to be considered Goth, you MUST listen to Goth Music, but how much Goth music should you listen to and enjoy before you can be considered Goth? 3 songs? 3 albums? 6 albums? Please advise.

This is a great question! I guess a handful of bands and to listen to them often 😂 but I think we will need to research that one and get back to you! - Lynn

@@RandomGothCouple Sweet. I wait with baited breath to learn what you two find out with this research. Cause I've listened to Rammstein since highschool, but recently started finding more music to listen to from Siouxsie and the Banshees and other bands. I didn't want to come off as fake for being goth.

I'm not a goth, but I'm a big music fan and listen to different genres and I have to say that there are a lot of good and interesting bands that fall into this genre. Since the early post-punk times, I have always found this music to be very experimental and exciting. The music landscape would be much poorer without this genre 👍
