You can tell when an NES game was released towards the end of life of the console. They always seem to have a more defined soundtrack, the animation and movements of the sprites seem to be more attractive. Also, sometimes the background scenery has a lot of activity. At that time of its lifespan developers are well aware of the limits of the hardware and know how to push it.
