Gameplay over graphics? You kidding? The GameCube is the second most powerful console of the 4 that generation. It was very high end tech.

yeah I have no idea what he was thinking when he said that
@orangeadventure9754 жыл бұрын
yeah it's not that the Gamecube wasn't powerful, it's that the Wii barely improved on the power at all. The Wii basically was just a Gamecube with tacked on motion controls.

0:26 "with it's focus on gameplay rather than graphics" I don't get this line. The Gamecube was the most powerful system of that generation. Compare RE4 on the Gamecube with the PS2 for example. However, this was the last console that Nintendo tried to stay on par with graphics.
@devin85778 жыл бұрын
I do believe the Gamecube was the second most powerful of the generation, with the Xbox definitely being the most powerful mainstream console of the sixth generation. If you want a good idea of how amazing the graphical horsepower on the original Xbox was, just check out all the GTA games that were released on the console, especially GTA III and VC.
@Samination8 жыл бұрын
If the Xbox was more powerful, it wasn't by much. They were at least on par. Anyway, my point was I don't get that line. The GameCube was still no slouch and more powerful than the PS2. I think this video just confused the GameCube and the Wii, as that statement would be true.
@devin85778 жыл бұрын
Yep. The sad part about the Xbox was that its components were actually more expensive to produce (the friggin' thing was produced with a 10 GB HDD, which did exclude the consumer from buying memory cards, but it cost Microsoft a fortune to produce the Xbox), but the GameCube was small, powerful, and above all, efficient. I'm personally a huge fan of the sixth generation of console gaming, and I'd throw my hat in saying it was the very last console generation worth investing money into!
@devin85778 жыл бұрын
According to Factor 5 (developers of Rogue Squadron II and III on GC), the GameCube's CPU was apparently just as powerful as the Xbox's CPU, even if the Xbox CPU was clocked at a faster speed.

I was at a flea market one time and saw that they had a few gamecube games. One of which was a case with no markings on what it could be, and scotch tape wrapped around it. There was a sticker on it saying it was 2 dollars. I asked the guy what game it was, and he said he didn't know because it was taped up when he got it. I was curious and handed him 2 bucks. Turns out it was a copy of Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, in mint condition! Best 2 bucks ever spent.

MrNintendo505 That depends. For multiplayer, DD is the way to go. I terms of quantity of levels en vehicles, MK8 is better. Also, online is awesome. But it all comes down to preference at the end anyway.
@thefreeroamer17778 жыл бұрын
Very true
@mario64remix8 жыл бұрын
+MrNintendo505 It has more maps, but has it better maps? My answer is no (even though there are some great ones like Excitebike Arena and Mount Wario. Rainbow Road was a disappointment, while DD's RR is my favorite). Don't forget the music (which are awesome in both games) and the fact that DD has 2 characters per kart and special items. I prefer DD's drifting btw. If you happen to own a couple of expensive adapters, you can play 16 player local on DD, MK8 does only 4, with online 12, which I don't count as local of course. I'm not hating on 8 though, it's my second favorite MK and I play it a lot (more than DD now because online)
@mario64remix8 жыл бұрын
Instead of ignoring my arguments and just saying I'm nostalgia blinded, you might want to give your opinion on these points. I can say you're too much forward looking. There's a reason I came back to DD time and time again, even though DS and Wii were already out at the time. The drifting and steering is not better, it's different. If you're flying around the track you might want to brake once in a while. That's part of the challenge, which is completely gone in the newer games. About retro tracks. Maybe I don't want to see the old course get ruined? When 7 and 8 came out I was really excited for the retro courses, but now I feel it's better to just play the older games. Why? Sherbet Land for example, looks so bland and boring in MK8. Where's the color? Where's the faces in the walls? Why do they have to add an anti gravity section in the only part of the track where you can die, making it too easy. The tracks are also ridiculously wide, making falling off impossible, and what's the fun in that? The whole anti gravity was cool at first, but now it feels forced. The flying and under water driving are fine though. I would rather just have racing where I can enjoy the courses like before. If I want to have anti gravity, I'll play F-Zero GX, thank you very much. 3 Rainbow Roads is not really a sellingpoint since 1 of them sucks, the other one was in 7 too, and the 64 one... Is really cool actually. Finally: MK8 feels kinda unfinished. The lack of multiplayer maps is a huge problem for me, and did you notice there's not even a proper award ceremony? Things like that is what gave DD so much charm. One more thing, what I consider my FAVORITE game does not mean I think it's the BEST game, two completely different things. And yeah, objectively speaking, 8 is better, if only for the fact it's on better hardware. But I judge games based on the amount of fun I had with it compared to past installments. And in that case, DD is still my Nr 1. What's your opinion on 64 btw?

With it's focus on game play rather then graphics? Seriously I'm pretty sure the game cube was the strongest system at the time.
@RandomTens8 жыл бұрын
Compared to the Xbox and PS2?
@chinesemassproduction8 жыл бұрын
+RandomTens Yes actually While it may have rendered graphics that were slightly not as good as the XBox, the Gamecube outdid the PS2 in every hardware aspect you can think of. A good reference for this is looking at Resident Evil 4 on both systems. The game is rendered better on the Gamecube and looks smoother, while on the PS2 it looks a little rougher.
@acegamereviews93508 жыл бұрын
I don't know how it is compared to the Xbox but it's definitely more powerful then the PS2 in fact Nintendo only started having systems that are weaker then there competitors after the Wii.
@chinesemassproduction8 жыл бұрын
Actually now that I think about it, the choice of Nintendo to use the disks they did was not the best. They had to make multiple disks for many games, but the graphics were most definitely better.

I purchased Path of Radiance at a local pawn shop in 2008 for about $15. I later sold it to GameStop for about $7. Years later, it is now super sought after and actually worth a decent chunk of change...

Emulated games past the cartridge era do not perform in an exact manner. For example, in F-Zero GX emulators often times crash.
@doodoostickstain8 жыл бұрын
Truth, Brian. i've been doing emulators since the nesticle days, and they aren't the proper experience. they'll do for a quick fix, but if you're serious about old games you need the hardware. sound especially suffers, and the games timing and speed are off a lot. some might argue they "run better", and while they don't suffer from the slowdown, that was a part of the experience on the consoles.
@smh99028 жыл бұрын
doodoostickstain I've personally found that even graphics and styles change. For example, in the original hardware Super Mario Sunshine, FLUDD's meter in the corner has a 3D modelled look, but in Dolphin its this weird flat 2D sprite looking thing. Also, the pachinko machine, poison river water in the sky, and the overall gameplay seems to be easier and a little _less_ "twicthy" for lack of a better word, in dolphin.

+doodoostickstain Nope. All retro systems will go extinct in a decade or two. Nothing lasts forever. The GameCube is one the easiest systems to emanate.

I've seen the 1st rarest 2K3 basketball game on different lists, but I'm surprised I didn't see the (supposed) 2nd rarest Gamecube game on this list, which is apparently Phantasy Star Online Episodes 1 & 2 Plus (with "Plus" on the end of the title). According to various lists I've seen, that is the 2nd rarest Gamecube game, just behind Basketball 2K3. Usually around $75.

Woah, I was expecting Gotcha Force and Ribbit King, and definitely Skies of Arcadia Legends (about $140 cib), but either way, nice video. Wasn't expecting a sports game! As for my favorites, it'd have to be Skies of Arcadia Legends and Viewtiful Joe. Both absolutely incredible, and everyone should pick up a copy if they have the chance.

If you want to get the most out of the Tellius Fire Emblem games, you'll need a Model 1 Wii with the GameCube ports so you can transfer your save from Path of Radiance to Radiant Dawn via GameCube Memory Card. That's one feature that the later Wii models removed.

First time watcher, long time gamer! My favorite GC game is definitely Super Smash Brothers Melee, but I also love Mario Golf - I've been known to play both for hours! The rarest game I have is Dance Dance Revolution Mario Mix. I had a hard time getting it, but the guy I was dating at the time found it on eBay, bought it without telling me, and came over one night with it. I love that game, and still have it to this day (10 years later). I also still have that amazing dance mat! We broke up about two years later, but this was definitely one of the nicest gifts I received from him.

You forgot Gotcha Force and a game I forget the name of, I think it might be Evolution Worlds, in which the main character uses a machine with a giant hand on his back as his weapon, and has a butler named Gre Nade, and a girl joins named Linear Cannon. Those two games are quite hard to find, as Gotcha Force was recalled at one point, and the second game is rare to begin with.

There's actually one more game that's even rarer - the Metal Gear Bonus Disc. Released only in Japan as part of a Twin Snakes console bundle, the disc is a port of the original Metal Gear. being released in this manner, it wasn't exactly well publicized and had a tiny run. Currently, the bundle runs anywhere from $400-500 imported from Japan, and, discounting the value of the GameCube itself and the copy of The Twin Snakes, the bonus disc runs about $200-250.
