I don't want to say Bill Hader's talent was wasted on SNL, because he was fantastic on that show, but good lord, what a character. There is so much going on in every scene, every moment he's on screen. One of the best performances on television right now.

@@c.s.mcleod7383 I'd argue he's probably *always* been an incredible actor. On SNL he showed he could completely transform into different people and make it look easy. He just needed more than a 3 minute sketch to show his emotional range as an actor.
@MDK2_Radio2 жыл бұрын
There have been some SNL alumni who went on to show a great deal more range than their time on that show hinted at, but Bill Hader may be the most talented actor ever to have been a cast member.

Season 2: Refuses to attack a child, even in self defense, and can’t even bring himself to kill a crime boss until he’s blinded by righteous rage Season 3: Willing to kill a child who isn’t doing anything to him because he wants to rebuild a relationship that he ruined with his own selfish actions by murdering a police officer That’s some Walter White to Heisenberg levels of character development

Or, the writers know that we already know that Barry won't kill a child, because they showed us that last season. But we also know that Gene doesn't know that about Barry, and thinks Barry is capable of any evil. Barry knows that about Gene and is exploiting it by bluffing that he will kill his family if he leaves him. Just because Barry says it, doesn't mean he'll actually do it. He's just taking advantage of Gene's fear.

In a dark and fucked up way, sure. It's really revealing how out of touch Barry is with reality, showing this downward spiral into insanity throughout the season. Barry's two "lives" being so intertwined and mixed that he can no longer separate the two. He wants so much for things to work out that he's willing to murder a child just to keep this façade of a "normal" life intact. In reality, it's simply impossible and Barry is in denial and refuses to accept that.

The guy gave him an acting job and struggled getting him one too. Tells him to enjoy it only to ask him "Do you love me" after he killed his girlfriend and stuffed him into his car "forcrd me to eat his sandwichs". I lost it there and the damn pat on the couch lol. Barry is a psychopath. He’s a hitman so he has to be. We thought he was this sweet, friendly and innocent like person even when he was killing people. That charade is now crumbling. It’s a judgment against us the audience who root for people like Barry, Walter white, dexter, etc. Why do we fetish and be entertained over evil characters? Masterpiece and original writing

Don't forget Vic Mackey! TV characters like them make amazing television.
@silversalmon99092 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't label him a psychopath because that brings a lot of connotation. Barry is someone who wants to be good, and wants to be seen as good, and so often has put on the mask of someone who is this nice, puppy dog eyed person. We are just now seeing that the mask is forced, and crumbles under pressure. I'm not sure if the intent is a judgement against people who root for people like Barry, that doesnt sound quite right to me. Its good to root for someone who wants to be good, its just that we've seen the selfish ways in which Barry is willing to maintain that persona.

Empathy. It's a human emotion that connects us and lets us survive. As viewers we want what's best for the main character of the show. We don't want them to die or lose. We want them to do the right thing and to see them happy. That's why when rewatching BB I didn't root for Walt; seeing his motives and what he did changes the viewing experience
