@@DMVGREY mmmmm, Bojack never directly killed anyone or intended to do so. Bojack's inactions and selfishness is what made him bad. Bojack's worst action was, waiting 18 minutes to call help for Sarah Lynn due to not wanting to be implicated... You can take my word for it, I just finished a rewatch. Also Bojack never wishes ill will on people. He's just naturally shitty and doesn't realize it.

Yeah remember "acting is truth," "use it," "you don't have to know what child abuse is like, you just have to know what it's like to hurt someone." He really hurt someone and he's using it...duh? I mean I wouldn't have even wondered if it wasn't brought up 15 times as what acting is, and then it kinda went nowhere, for Barry, if not Bill Hader? Here's what it might be: "Can you give me ANYTHING?"--Sally to Barry, in that scene that won the Emmy, after he murders his old marine buddy, with the agent in the audience. The biggest literary agent in the world had requested my novel--the real "Tale of Scrotie McBoogerballs" from "South Park." The book that makes you puke, that's inexplicably REALLY good. Bill Hader was there, in the "South Park" writer's room. That was a parody of a real book--that's why that episode made no sense, and people still ask Google if it's real, somehow. I had mailed it to the voice of Towelie. "Guys, this is MY LIFE. I don't want to sue you. It's the coolest thing in the world you did a 'South Park' about my book. Salman Rushdie's agent requested it because this literary genius Stanford neuroscientist basically said 'I think it's like the best thing I've ever read?' like an idiot, like the episode. You guys are actually talented, these people are not, it means EVERYTHING TO ME. I love you. Can you give me ANYTHING?" Cold. Under orders, like the Macbeth scene from Season 1--"South Park" guys didn't want to get sued or then, have it be known they were dicks like that. Unfortunately there's a bunch of evidence they left behind... Scrotie dot Biz in your browser.

I think what makes the S2 finale so chilling is how little his actions mean to him in the moment. In that moment, he's right there back in the dugout making those 3 incredible shots. Clinical and detached. But he's furious now. Rather than just being cold, Barry is this furious force of nature whose actions are entirely guided by, yet detached from his emotional state.

I think the big thing for season 2 was Barry hoping he can be better. In episode 1 of season 2, the first time you see him, he exits the shadows, with the shadow feeling like the actions he took at the end of season 1, with the death of Janice. He clearly wants to overcome this darkness inside him, and as the season ends, his rage towards Fuches seems to drive him back to this place of accessing this darkness he’s trying to escape, it’s like a vicious cycle he can’t seem to escape and he seems to accept his actions as he looks dejectedly at Mayrbek’s corpse and then while looking crushed, returns to the darkness in the last shot that you see of him, tying up his story arc for the second season in the same way that it began. The storytelling for this show is simply magnificent and I cannot wait for season 3.

I love how a dark comedy is one of the few shows that actually understands what PTSD is like... Or how Military training desensitizes you to point where in the moment it's just about being good at your job, it's only after you leave the lifestyle, where you have no place to put that entire section of your life in society that shit starts to haunt you. Sure, there's guilt, buts the overwhelming sense of crushing isolation that really eats to your core. This, and the ending of Hurt Locker when he volunteers to go back because it's the only place where he feels a connection.

As someone with horrible rage issues, i found myself relating to barry in so many ways throughout the s3 and the start of s4 that it honestly shook me
@FGCfoof
@FGCfoof Жыл бұрын
I feel that, but I feel like it's important to remember that these moments of inexcusable, yet fairly understandable, rage/violence/narcissism show up in all of the main cast. Fuches throws Barry under the bus as often as he tries to help; Sally lets her rage and trauma out on anyone she perceives as "beneath" her when she's pushed; Hank aids, abets, and even commits atrocities because he can't reconcile his love for the bros with his passion for crime; and so many more examples. One of the central themes of this show is growing past trauma. It can be done, and it takes hard, gruelling work. Fuches is slowly, but surely, growing into more of a "normal" father figure, even if his proverbial 'son' has left him; Jim Moss is being built up as someone who's seen some shit, which in this show, means he's probably done some shit (other than the advanced interrogation techniques). Gene, for all his faults, has been trying to right the wrongs of his past - partially for selfish reasons, yes, but also in part to set things right. That's all to say, it's okay to see yourself in Barry, or the rest of the cast for that matter. That's what they were written for, in a sense - the real worry would be if you willfully ignore those potential character flaws, and try to "solve" them by pretending they don't exist. Definitely not just writing this as a self-cope, nope!

I feel so related to Sally, what she does and how she tries to take something out of that pain and the guilt that she felt for curling up in bed again with her abuser .... and then later Barry going full circle and becoming her abuser. Violent relation aren't always drunks or aggressive men sometimes they are just like Barry, and you feel trapped trying to save someone desperate but yet again again and again doing all of this violence

Can we just appreciate that Bill is playing a character who is bad at acting but pulls off crazy emotional scenes with just facial expressions and can also somehow make us laugh in the next scene?
@ManubibiWalsh

This is missing the scene where Barry crashes the mirror and screams. I feel like just that bit is heartbreaking because of how utterly broken Barry was from the beginning, really. He really had no way out from the very start, from the moment he went to war and came back.
