Yeah...if my wife would let me I'd sell the darn house to own a Beck 904. I'd rather have it than any other sports car. Chuck Beck is my hero! Maybe if I win the lottery.... The thing is, for what they are and for the performance they give, they are pretty inexpensive. And heck, it's a 9o4. The PCA snobs be splinched!! And I've always loved the sound of a barely muffled air cooled Porsche flat 6. I still have my 1965 Monogram 9o4 1/32 scale slot car!

Me too! I still have the model kit with both interiors to use it as a slot car or static model.

Try pitting it against the flathead V12 Hot Rod Lincoln! The guy beside me thought I'd lost my sense! The telephone polls looked like a picket fence...

My guess is that the 904 is running at least 300 horsepower and over 7K revs. I'll bet he is close to 6K revs on some downshifts. Very strong motor and good, aggressive driver. How about the two parked cars at the corner apex at about 10:15? A 904 with driver will be about 1750 lbs while the sedans will be almost twice as much. But have to hand it to Randy Beck.

So... are Beck's 904's replicas' with rebuilt flat six Porsche engines or originals? How many 904's were produced?
@designslave382 жыл бұрын
Really loved is vid because u destroyed a lot of “boy racers” and a few cars I really hate. Not saying the competition was useless, but you made them look that way. Not sure you’re late to the apex either. Long time NSX owner myself. You and that car are a beast!

Is that engine sound that I'm hearing coming from a 4-cam engine? Would some one, please, confirm? I've never heard the sound of one.

A fox in the henhouse... but that is as it should be, it is after all a dedicated race car, not a sedan. Throw in an Alfa GTZ 1 and it could get interesting. That is a very good looking track.

Just curious. If this is a handmade car (as in quite new), and not an original 904, how does it qualify as vintage?

Reminds me of my own driving in Div 1 GTP in the mid-90's. Semipro slot racer going to touring pro in the regionals. Local champ as well, loosing only one race. Just passed everything in sight till they told me to stop. Built our own 1:24 scale Lexan bodied cars from parts. Still have the original model kit that could convert to slot car. I'd love to own one of these in Bavarian blue!
@Ducksauce339 жыл бұрын
Why did he start from so far back with such a faster car?
@lateapexer43099 жыл бұрын
+Ducksauce It was a race group comprised of BMWs racing for National points plus a handful of non-BMWs. The Beck 904 and a Corvette had qualified in the top several spots but were gridded at the back of the field to give the BMWs an unobstructed opportunity for their National points... but that decision effectively eliminated any opportunity for a non-BMW to be an outright winner. A very fast Corvette, having qualified in either the first or second spot, withdrew from the race in protest.
@Ducksauce339 жыл бұрын
After seeing what this guy did the Corvette may have won. He should of just raced, and maybe embarrassed them. Was first place way out ahead at the end, or could he maybe of chased him down? You would think they could of just gave out points to the BMWs from the positions they came in relative to other BMWs. Then just kept the other cars positions relative to where they finished against each other. Made for allot of passing, but that can be dangerous to them classics. Still looked like he had fun.
@whenvioletsturngrey95972 жыл бұрын
Good fun! Would have been nice to see him battle it out with the winner, just for fun.

What the fuck is a handbuilt, fiberglass special doing in that class of road cars? It is a Beck 904, NOT a Porsche 904, and it uses modern Porsche mechanicals, what a scam to be in that class.

Many years ago, historic and vintage "racing" was just a place to bring old race cars that were in an "as-raced" configuration and basically non-competitive with modern and current classes and gave people a chance to see these old warriors. Because of the nature and value of the cars, most ran them hard, but were not racing full-out because what is the point? Their championships and status were determined decades ago. Today, many cars in vintage racing have only turned a wheel in recent years, having never been on a racetrack before. Of course, some of these are now 10 or 20 years old, but they still never turned a wheel when they were current, i.e., '60s cars that never raced until '90s or '00s. Also, they are often filled with replicas, usually Cobras. More "Cobras" race today than were made in the '60s. Another are the Grand Sport replicas. Five originals were built, but you will often see several in today's racing. Plus many of them are all-out racing, putting out 500 or more ponies, running on modern rubber, and pushing harder than anyone 50 or 60 years ago did because they have modern "safety" devices like 4 stage dry sump, six or eight piston Wilwood brakes, fiberglass springs, modern suspension links, modern featherweight multi-disk clutches, rear ends bulletproof thanks to decades of drag racing development, and so on. And it is what it is. The rich boys still play by the Golden Rule. They have the gold and they make the rules. And it strokes their egos thinking they are as good or better than those who did this long ago.
