Humble, extremely likeable, could talk a little smack when he needed to (Tito), always performed, was beating men near half his age with ease and dominance, kept a cool head despite Dana openly admitting he was counting him out repeatedly (Dana's massive, loving monologue about Tito after a fight he was dominated right in Randy's face reminded me of how Dana openly cussed out another GOAT, GSP right in front of him post Hendricks). Without rewriting my "book" on the subject, I really, really hope that the top UFC fighters start negotiating contracts with the help of sports/entertainment lawyers. Right now, it seems like the fighters are so glad to be making"good" money that they're almost OK with not getting what they should because they're not "down" with the business aspects of MMA---whether in the UFC, Bellator or wherever. Whatever else can be said about Floyd Mayweather, he's possibly the richest athlete on the planet because he did *business* with people who were used to running a boxer's pockets. Dana White's stuff would stop if he had to go into a contract negotiation with, say, Ronda Rousey (who is still valuable to the UFC for marketing reasons, and will become more valuable IF she regains the strap), knowing that she was willing and able to go to Bellator---especially if the powers-that-be at Bellator started investing in fighters in such as way as to make the promotion a serious, valuable option to the UFC. IMO, it's gonna take a wake-up for the fighters, that they realize it's not in their interest to allow Dana White (or anyone else, really) to become the "Vince McMahon of MMA." These guys and gals are athletes---but they're also independent contractors, much like pro wrestlers in fact. There's not even a faint illusion of "job security," which means they need to start (or ramp up) thinking like *business people,* and putting their interests above those of the UFC and/or Dana White. That means, if that contract is up for (re) negotiation, it's time to lawyer up. Whoops, almost wrote another book!
@tonyjones15608 жыл бұрын
bighands69 you do have a good point, the old saw about "inmates running the asylum" has truth to it. Thinking about this, perhaps the *best* thing that could happen to MMA at this level would be another competitive promotion or two? I'd still like to see the fighters overall do a better job of seeing to their interests...while would-be "savvy" fighters may have damaged boxing, look how many have been used up then discarded by crooked promoters or managers...
@YellowPaint100 Жыл бұрын
What you said about Floyd is exactly why I love the guy. I'm a fight fan too & enjoy a good scrap! But not at the expense of realizing these promotions/promoters wanna treat them like dogs. All these writers & sports analysts that never fought a day in their lives, get paid to TALK about Floyd ducking & cherry picking. The whole while they refuse to acknowledge the business side like you did. Some of these fans too! @work, @barbershop, @coffee shop these ppl ignore the business side & just repeat the stuff the media says. Anyways... thank you 👍
@tonyjones1560 Жыл бұрын
@@YellowPaint100 You’re welcome! Might not have sounded like it, but I have a great deal of respect (if not admiration!) for Floyd Mayweather as a fighter as well as a businessman. Heck, I’d call him and try to book a session…

Dana's management style is taken straight out of the Fertitta playbook. All employees are expendable, expect them to sacrifice everything for the company and then walk away with nothing after they can't perform anymore. This is why no casino they own has ever had a union, this is also why they UFC fighters aren't unionized. They are all independent contractors, like Uber.

I admit my audio is not working properly on this computer, so I really could not hear that interview too well, but if Randy is bitching about his fight purses being short, he should really not be-not at all. 10 yrs ago, when he was heading cards, the money of today's UFC was not there. now they pay 50k for performance bonuses to half the guys on top of their purse. Thats like 4-5X what a lot of these guys are getting from fight contracted purse, so a guy can walk in there and go home with 60-70k on a good performance. Randy may have made 70k for a headlining fight when randy was main eventing UFCs; where as a mid-carder like Joe Louzan takes home a bonus and a purse every fight, I'm guessing 70k. The finances surrounding the UFC is 100% different than it was 10 yrs ago. For instance, Chael Sonnen made 8 million off of his 2nd fight with Silva. though randy has never even sniffed 8 million, if he was headlining a UFC you can rest assured that he was still the highest paid guy on the card. Plus, if he was unhappy with his compensation, he could have simply not agreed to terms and scrapped the fight. Nobody held his feet to the fire to fight. In fact he could have walked across the street and fought for King of the Cage (joking) and got $100.00. The UFC holds all the cards, all the leverage, and their pretty much gonna dictate what their gonna pay you with a little bit of wiggle room cause they're the biggest dog in the yard. its a very shitty bizness. Plus, randy is pretty much a loaded mother fucker thz days. He owns a couple houses in Vegas and a state of the art gym; i'd say he'll be fine.. I don't see him coming to west virginia to work in the coal mines anytime soon.

Ancillary rights-- in relation to entertainment law are contractual agreements in which a percentage of the profits are received and derived from the sale of action figures, posters, books, etc. relating to a film or motion picture. This is what Randy fought for, and Dana and the UFC said fuck off Randy!!! After Randy got thrown out... GSP, Ronda, Conor, and everyone who has a brain makes sure they have more than adequate representation to make sure they are properly compensated for the use of their likeness or brand. You can't just sign your life away to the UFC, but if you stand up for yourself, then you might not have a place in the UFC....unless you are Conor or Ronda, or Super Sage Northcut.
