Any serious Hendrix fan will tell you just how good a performance this is by Randy because he captures all those little nuances in Jimi's playing almost note perfectly. It amuses me somewhat that some people are criticizing him for producing a near flawless copy of the fillmore version, do you have any idea how hard that still is to achieve in an AUTHENTIC fashion with the FEEL of Jimi's playing? If he was falling short in some way then it would likely be the opposite, "well he's good, but he can't do it just like Jimi". Guys give the man some credit where it's due. There are numerous performances of Jimi's songs on youtube by very highly regarded guitar players and they never come near to what Randy does. He is the closest thing that you are going to get to the real deal while he is still around.

It's very rare to see a guitarist who can actually properly imitate Jimi. The tone is great, the playing is on fucking point, all those little noises, dynamics, all the subtle nuances in vibrato and bending that Jimi had, the energy, just perfect. The dude is truly a scholar of Hendrix, can't even imagine how much time he spent studying his playing.

+james cava It;s not note for note, not even Randy wants to go THAT far. Randy plays the majority of the song faithfully right, it's amazing really, how much work Randy has done to capture most of Hendrix's phrasing. There simply will never be a more realistic guy to cover Hendrix, Randy is as good as will ever get without getting TOO creepy and trying to play exactly the same way as each Hendrix LIVE version goes. Jimi played machine gun different every night, Randy has to mainly play the classic version, that;s what the fans want to hear, I bet Randy could really go to town in his own way, but its not really what he is up there to do.

The Filmore version is my absolute favorite!
@heavyfuelv27 жыл бұрын
yes , as far as the playing goes , Jimi had a beautiful voice , randy dosen't quite nail that , still a outstanding performance though .
@michaeldrake22327 жыл бұрын
Christopher Mayer I would have to agree with you. If you watch him play he plays with a lot of respect to Jimi. I'm a big Hendrix fan from the first time I hear him play. I do give Randy Hansen his props. But when you get down to it he isn't Jimi Hendrix. if it wasn't for Jimi putting out the songs. Randy Hansen wouldn't have anything to play.
@BlueberryStinkFinger627 жыл бұрын
Christopher Mayer absolutely agree i have the Album..no difference at all..its almost like Hendrix is in side Randy..

Capturing that Filmore tone is hard enough, this is just fucking amazing: capturing the highlight riffs Jimi did and then his own subtle touches. Awesome.

As authentic as it can get outside of the original. Fuckin' amazing!
@tometci118 жыл бұрын
In my opinion it's not authentic at all sorry. This is a true copy of Machine Gun from Band of gypsies live , I can find no creation in this stuff from Hansen.. I have to admit this is a good copy but it doesn't interests me at all . This isn't a personal work at all ... I prefer to be listening to the original version.
@seba1458 жыл бұрын
Tomidel its suppossed to be as close as the original as possible, not improvised or created by randy. its an opportunity for the ones that couldnt see jimi play while he was alive
@tometci118 жыл бұрын
I agree. But this video is presented as if it was a reinterpretation from Hansen. And it's not. Even the voice is the same. And everybody is super enthusiastic about the fact this work is getting outside of the original. They don't know the original I guess ...
@seba1458 жыл бұрын
Tomidel they're all praising him because he did an exact performance. If he had improvised himself it would still be nice but certainly not the same. I cant speak for the rest here but i came to this video because its just like watching jimi play but in much higher sound and video quality.
@reijoturtiainen50678 жыл бұрын
I put a positive mark on the analysis, but I dissagree about the perfect match in Hendrix's quitar, I've listened the stuff for tens of years, and can easily see some shortcomings in Randy's playing. And I dont want to be blunt, but the sounds and person dont also match hear. The exact copy it dont have to be, but.......

this is imposible ,no one can do this, he has to be possesed by hendrix . just saw Bonamasa doing his band of gypsys tone.Randy is light years beyond anyone. He is also doing this right handed.words can not convey how impressive this is. Randy you have to be proud and Jimi must have been on ten hits of acid to create this in the first place

I cried listening to this. Absolutely, without a doubt, the best rendition cover of "Machine Gun" I have ever heard. I was 12 years old in 1968 when I was given "Band of Gypsies" album by someone I didn't even know. I listened to that record almost exclusively for years and years. Played the record, started over. It got ingrained into my bones. This is like listening to Jimi, God rest his soul. This video is going into my favorites to listen to again and again. I HAVE to see these guys LIVE!!

For those who were too young or not lucky enough to see Hendrix play, this is as close as you can get to that experience. It's really close to what you could have gotten if this was early 1969 and Hendrix was still here.

I have played in bands for around 30 years in the style of SRV, Hendrix, Robin Trower, Rory Gallagher and the like. Out of all the guitar players i have seen and heard nobody comes close to capturing the soul, vibe, feel, and tone of Hendrix and much more than the Randy Hansen band. Randy doesn't just play the same notes but also takes it to an even higher level that Hendrix could have gone to had he lived. Where some players try to overshred playing 1000 notes a second to Hendrix, Randy keeps it real and never loses the soul of Jimi.

This is actually mind bending. It’s one thing his guitar playing sounding so eerily similar to Jimi (and I don’t mean that to in anyway take away form the mans skill and brilliance in his own right) but that voice as well! So similar to jimi it’s crazy. He should get more credit. I just found this but have been playing it none stop. From one guitar player to another I can not express how good I think this shit is! Wow!

can't give randy or his band enough respect. it's really religious in a way spending your whole life devoted to understanding what another person did. it's really heavy. randy deserves to be remembered he's truly an artist in his own right.
