After time has passed and we've learned of their shenanigans about their drinking, taking a donkey into an either attempting to get it to the booth, or in my opinion the best pranks they did was towards the end of games, announcers from every broadcast would inform the listeners about the upcoming shows being broadcasted on that channel once the game was over. Madden even said it later in Randy's career that even in his rookie year it was obvious to him and a lot of people that he was already the best player in the league. But because he was so young he didn't want to jinx him or put to much pressure on him so he always put a label on it like most dangerous or fastest player. But everyone knew he was the best. Even then

Irvin getting his head driven into the turf in the first quarter and losing feeling in his hands was an ominous sign of what was going to happen the next year in Philly. Same kind of injury and play. Glad he wasn’t hurt for life.
