In episode 3 of this Nevada archery deer hunt, Randy and Scott fill up their flat tire with air before heading out to a glassing knob for the morning. The smoke is thick, but they are able to locate 5 bucks across the drainage. After losing sight of them, they decide to move locations to get eyes on some new ridges.
Randy spots a small buck in the wide open but decides to let it go since he made it through such a rough drought year. After an explanation about Randy’s history with tacos they head to bed for the last full day of hunting. They are able to locate a group of bucks and decide to make a stalk in. The wind isn’t great, but try to make it work as time in the hunt is winding down.

Hey Randy. Just wanted to say thank you for all your hard work and filming. Even when they don't produce a harvest. I found your channel last year when I was hospitalized for a month from a severe auto immune disease setback. Your videos helped keep me sane and my spirits up, that I might be able to make it to the woods in November of 2020. I made it and was successful in harvesting whitetail deer. I find myself again a year later watching your channel for hours on end due to a work related injury. Your positivity in your videos is infectious through the screen. So again... thank you for all you do! Happy hunting.

Relatable scorpion story; My dad had an old timer friend named Lawrence who was an eccentric, and as country as they come ( he also had a PhD). They used to run their coyote hounds in Mexico during the 80s (when it was safe to do so). They would cross the border at Progreso, TX into Tamalipus and hunt the entire weekend, often at a place they called Goat Island (?). One night a norther began to blow through and it ruined the hunting. They decided to build a fire and ride out the front. They collected old mesquite wood and soon had a good fire going. Dad was hunkered down sitting on an old milk crate and Lawrence, in usual Lawrence form was laying on his back, on the bare ground with his hands under his head, and one leg crossed over his raised knee. Suddenly a scorpion rushed from the burning wood directly towards Lawrence. Dad jumped up and squashed the scorpion. Lawrence didn't budge. A few minutes later another scorpion rushed from the fire right towards Lawrence. Dad jumped up and squashed this scorpion as well, and Lawrence still didn't so much as flinch. Dad sat down then told Lawrence, "Lawrence, that's the second scorpion to come out of that fire that I've had to squash for you". Lawrence still laying in the same position responded, "Abel, that's what I have good friends for".

As I watched you struggle to repair your tire, I could only think about the number of time I or other in our party found ourselves in a similar situation. Our go to repair kit for flats in the boonies is a kit by the name of "Safety Seal". It is the next best thing to a spare tire. The kit is more expensive than the junk one time maybe kits found in auto parts stores. We have had our kits, some of us, for over twenty years. The kit has solid reusable tool that make repairing radial tires much easier than the war you had with the lesser made tool. I always believe that the experiences that we have in the field, sometimes good, sometimes not so good, are the memories that will always be remembered and cherished as we age. Thank you for sharing some of your memories. By the way, I live in Nevada and truly believe I have been on some of the same hilltops that your show in this video series.

Over here in Great Britain - there is no public access hunting ground. Zero. The land is always owned by somebody wealthy (the Royal family owns half of the Country) - and they keep the hunting for themselves. You guys in the US need to give as much support as possible to advocates like Randy. Once they take away public access rights, it never comes back. If only we'd had such staunch advocates here - so please learn from our mistakes and donate your time and resources to fight for your access rights.

Good info on Cliff Gray's KZbin interview with James Nash about sheep herds and the mule deer population. The sheep come through and eat the vegetation. The herders are killing more predators and when the sheep leave the regrowth is great for the mule deer and with less predation.

When I was guiding summer trips in Colorado, we would occasionally run into the Basque shepherds w-a-a-a-y above timberline with their flocks of "range maggots." By the time fall hunting rolled around, they had moved out of the high country so we never saw them. They would always stick to themselves and didn't care to interact with us anyway. Probably a language barrier thing, at least.

I love the sound of of buck brush (chaparral bush) against the side of the truck. It means deer season is on! Your truck earned those scratches. Also Tapatio is the best! During this year's archery season, I hit a downed tree. The Mendocino fire deadfalls and snow/wind and rain dropped a lot of trees onto the road. Anyways, we were going out and I was not paying attention. Then BAM lots of dust. The tree was partially cut from forest service clearing the roads. The side wall of my front driver side tire was completely cut. That ended the one day we got to hunt for archery since NF closed the forest because of fires. Also, native legend is you will never shoot another deer if you take an albino. I have seen two albino deer in 25 years of hunting.

The late 80s and early 90s saw tremendous deer numbers in Northern Nevada and when I talked to a biologist near Winnemucca last year he said that the herd was probably 80 percent down from that. Still some monster bucks out there but loss of good winter range by developers and a lion population that is really high and the droughts are reeking havoc. But much of the west is in big trouble.
