I like the new CO system requiring you to buy a qualifying license. Should help with point creep issues. Youth also are exempt from the habitat stamp requirement. My 11-yr old just bought his first point there last week, and I just opened the letter with his small game license in it. He is excited!

@@BackwoodsMayhem You may be right. My comment is based on the fact that I know two guys who told me they are no longer applying in CO because they don't want to pony up the funds for a qualifying license every year. They can apply in other states for much cheaper.

I'm a little lat to this conversation, but I think it's smart in that for every qualifying license, the state of CO gets to count that as a license being bought by someone. That helps them get more Pittman-Robertson Funds from the Feds to help with game management in the state.

I thought I might point out if you purchase a small game license to be able to apply you will legally be able, in most seasons, to harvest grouse while you hunt deer and elk. This makes for a very tasty camp meal. For some reason the grouse move higher as the weather gets worse.

Randy in New Zealand we can hunt 24/7 365 with no fees tags or anything. We struggle to understand how restrictive the rules are in the US. The only issue we have is that hunters need to shoot more to control populations.

if you think in America it is complicated see what's in Bulgaria you can only hunt wild boar with 20 people and if you want to hunt deer you have to pay 10 000euro +(it depends on the score of the deer).And you are really lucky to live in New Zealand and hunt there.

I really don't understand the hybrid draw in Colorado. It seems like some of the hybrid units NR hunters should be drawing a couple of the tags. I don't see that in the draw recap report sheets.

Whichever you can use most proficiently to make a good, accurate shot. You must respect the animal. If it would be a bad shot. Don't take it. If you choose at that moment not to even take the shot that's fine too. Hunting isn't about killing. Yes, animals die and animals are eaten. Most hunters you meet truly enjoy the experience of learning about the animals, nature, and the outdoors. Given that most hunters are only successful about 10% of the time you want to be a lot more interested in the skill of hunting than any type of desire to just kill something. A bow and gun kill very differently. The gun kills most quickly due to the shock upon impact. An arrow with broadhead kills by hemorrhage. Many archers will tell you they have shot game with their arrow passing completely through the animal. Many of these animals, unless spooked, will act as though they don't know what happened. I have watched some continue to feed. Most will succumb in a moment or two unless spooked. This can happen with a rifle shot as well. Hunting isn't for everyone. It's always been cheaper to just buy your steaks and burger at the most expensive butcher shop in town. :-)

@@firmfire2385 that depends, as with any hobby it is very easy to spend as much as you desire. Can you hunt frugal and save money on the grocery bill? Yes its possible, however I don't know anyone that does. Just the time off of work alone makes it not worth it if the only reason your hunting is save money on groceries.

Yes you would have to purchase the big game tag separately.

I’m a resident. Colorado doesn’t have a hunting license for big game, you only draw and pay for a tag.

I think video great idea but sooo many out of staters ruining hunting for us locals! We live in these otc units and it sucks cuz we scout all summer and before hunt, then once hunting starts, all elk gone and you count 15-20 other hunters in same drainage and 0 elk when you been seeing 50-100 for months. And when you run into other hunters, they all out if staters who don’t know how to hunt and blow everything out. It’s tough

Since this video was put out harvest is up over 250%, tags sales went up over 300% and the populations have dropped by 80%. Also preference points system changed in 2021/22 and now it's doesn't matter how many preferences points u have. Watvhed many first time moose applicants get tags when it's takes "an average of 9 points" Also points can just plain be bought now so they mean almost nothing. U cyld literally buy the points to apply Fer a 20 point unit in just 4 years without ever applying Fer the tag the pint are for. Sqwry randy but the game has changed and preference pints mean nothing. There's a reason (everywhere but govt sources) we are ranked in the mid 40s Fer wildlife managent. Colorado was amazing in my childhood. Nows it's outta controll and headed towards another cali.

No you don't need to apply or buy the small game license. The elk otc are unlimited

Not really, people do it because they want to not because you will make anything from it. If you lucky the pelts might cover the gas.
