Unbelievable Randy, So I reconditioned a 6 pac of Trojan T145's 8 months ago. It took close to a month to complete the process on all 6 and charge them totally by solar. The results, they are still charging to 97% of what new batteries do and run a household of 3800 sq. ft. I neutralized the batteries 10x and bounced them around off road in the back of my 4 wheel drive after the 5th baking soda treatment. Thanks for the vid that bank of batteries cost is aprox $1500.00 to replace.

Came across your video and my original comment again, so I thought I would post my experience. I first saw your battery video series back a year or so ago. I tried your baking soda/epsom salt method multiple times on multiple batteries. Rising them out with baking soda solution multiple times until clear. filling with epsom salt, and charging for days, checking each day to see amp levels ect. I didn't really have any success with it on any of them. Got plenty bubbles on most. But some of them didn't do anything but hold a surface voltage, but only low amps. Others kind of worked, but only for a short time. not sure if I did something wrong, or what. Really wanted it to work and really tried. But in the end, i mostly just spent a lot of time and didn't get much results. And just as a point, I'm used to fixing, repair, fabricating, ect ect. I like doing things myself, have always done so most of my life. Also because I don't have the $ to hire anyone anyway LoL

You need to use sulfuric acid. The reaction in the battery is supposed to create lead sulfate. Lead sulfate is whatever holds the charge. With no sulfuric acid there is no sulfate

Speaking from experience and as a ASE certified master technician,Sometimes the batteries are too diminished of catalyst. And for better results don't trickle charge but short high amp low volt pulse width modulated heavy dwell saturation of current will give the plates a better chance of flaking off any scaling.also alot of times there's irreversible wear and tear or damage causing a "dead cell" . The method he's showing is a cool 50\50 shot of working but it's not a guaranteed thing. especially if the battery has been depleted to 0 volts, dry , dropped or overheated then your bout outta luck .

you don't have to take the old battery acid to a landfill, just add enough baking soda to it and it will completely neutralize it. I used to work in automotive, and had to deal with batteries on a daily basis, we had acid spills, boil overs (if the charger screwed up) and more. We kept a 5 gallon bucket of baking soda with a scoop and used it to neutralize all spills in accordance with regulations.

I really appreciate you for thorough and very clear descriptions. I have watched countless videos about this but I think yours are the best. I have always wanted to go into the business of battery reconditioning in Nigeria. That is the more reason I shall not be tired watching your videos. However, should I apply the same process when I am reconditioning deep cycle batteries used for solar applications? I have always noticed something common with the videos.about battery reconditioning. The common thing is the use of car lead acid battery in presentation. Can you use a deep cycle battery (GEL, AGM) including tubular batteries for presentation? .Thank you in anticipation of your kind response.

There are several suggestions for doing a pro job Don't try to do this unless you know what you are doing - the acid can burn your skin Test the voltage first - there may be a dead cell which would waste your time. Check the battery fluid. Try to fully charge the battery. (I read about these and more on Jons Mender Guide site )

The water won't freeze if you do exactly as instructed here. The lead plates will react with water to make sulfuric acid. Same goes for adding water to a battery. Do it in warm weather or charge in heated garage.

I have read that Sulfation problems are primarily the sulfation between cell plates and the sulfation that drops to the bottom of the battery which is shorting out the plates at the bottom.. Might be a good idea on the first step with the acid still in to turn it over and whack it with a rubber mallet or wood to shake it off of the plates and bottom and then dump it.. Might also try the first time, shooting a spray of water into the battery and shaking it around and dumping it to loosen the deposits.. Get it as clean as possible and then start with the soda.. Might save a few boiling trips.. Just some thoughts watching your video.. I had to buy 2 950cca batteries for my bus.. Ouch and have a big tractor battery that I have to replace now $200.00.. What the hell more than time and some epsom salt sitting in the cabinet do I have to loose?? Ha.. Fixing to rip it out and give it a whirl... Thanks for the video.. You sound like a NC mountain man.. Ha.. Cheers.

Great video. You demonstrated that before you start your process; the first thing you do is charge the battery with the old acid. Have you tried emptying the old acid first, then prepare your banking soda solution, pour that to the empty cells and giving it a 1amp charge over night to better activate the baking soda chemical thus better separating the acid crystals from the cells? Thanks Frank Vietnam Vet

Two Questions come to mind : Would it help to flush the battery out with clear water real good after the Baking Soda clear flush, just before the Epsom Salt solution is poured in, or does it even matter.... Second, after the initial trickle charge, can subsequent charges, if needed, be faster or smart chargers - something higher than 1 or 2 amps?

12:38, That’s going to be the acid when it charges up. So I googled a seemingly stupid question. Is Sulphuric Acid the same as Epson Salts? This is the google comment. copy/pasted. ( I did not add anything to this google comment) Epsom salt is magnesium sulphate - MgSO4. Its no different electrolytically than sulphuric acid - H2SO4. There is a possibility that there will be some MgO saltsbeing deposited on the plates, but essentially instead of H+ ions moving around, you have Mg2+ ions moving.May 5, 2013
@CSDSolutionsLLC

So when MgSO4 is dissolved in H2O and then exposed to a voltage it reacts and becomes H2SO4? Is that's what's happening?
@kittyfanatic1980
@kittyfanatic1980 4 жыл бұрын
@@CSDSolutionsLLC Exactly!!!!😁 The lead plates create H2SO4 from water. My grandpa was a science teacher for well over 20 years and he'd tell ya. Forgot to add: must use distilled water or the minerals from tap water will adhere to the plates. Same as adding antifreeze to your vehicle.

Hello! I just have a couple of questions, once it's charged up do you leave the epsom salt in the battery? Or do you do a half and half with epsom salt and water and battery acid? And I noticed you said your voltage was dropping in part 3 at the end, but it has enough power to start if you switch it off and leave it for the night will it be able to start again the next morning if the voltage drops?

Hi, can I use to clean the battery with strong 10 ph alkaline water instead of using soda mixed with water I think it safer compared with baking soda? Alkaline hot water will remove all dirt and buildup in the battery, I already tested on my coffee cup it removes completed all stain buildup from coffee. Distilled water is acidic ph 5, topwater normal ph 7 and alkaline water ph 8 or more, ph 10 is very strong to clean all dirt and buildup inside of the battery.

Thanks, I am for sure going to try it out, is the water qty american gallon or brittish gallon? 3,7 litres versus 4,5 litres might have an effect?

Great video. A 12 volt motorcycle battery could fit in a guitar to run a tube preamp. It should last 16+ years too :)

Have you thought of flushing them with running water to help the cleaning process?

I saw your video, it's very interesting. I have a battery that has a date of 3/10. I've lost count how many times I cleaned it out, possibly 15 times. It's starting to run clear, I'm going to do it two or three more times to be on the safe side. It's a 12-volt EverStart marine battery I want to use it on a solar power setup. It's 125 amp hours, under the circumstances of being solar. Would you still use the salt and the distilled water. Or would you rather just go with acid. If this works for the saltwater like you say it does and I hope it does. I've got another one, I really like your video. The water has a slight tint to it, very little residue. It's really not enough mention about

Can anyone tell me if the Epson salt and water solution will freeze in the winter or does it go through some chemical change to prevent that? Also, why can't you use a regular charger?

Hi Randy, I meant to say Gud Vid! My typing F-ed up big time. If you have an old battery that's been sitting around five years or so is it worth a try? I'm gonna try and will let you know. Thanks again you Good Ole String Plucker Bro! DavetJO
@RandySchartiger

yes doesn't matter how old as long as ALL cells bubble when you charge, if all are bubbling and you get them clean it will work. good luck bro! let me know how it goes!

Are you using epsom salt and distilled water for cost reasons? Why not use acid. Thanks in advance.

Do u put the original battery acid that u poured out at the start back in? If not what liquid is in the battery once all flushed with baking soda solution? Is it epsom solution?
@RandySchartiger
@RandySchartiger 4 жыл бұрын
yes the epsom solution should be all that's in the battery after you kill the old acid left in the cells with baking soda, you may have to do baking soda several times then epsom solution and then charge. good luck! thanks for checking out my videos!
