Rangat Island, a hidden gem nestled in the Middle Andaman, is accessible by road from Port Blair, the capital city of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Here's how you can get there by bus or car:
By Bus:
Government Buses: The most budget-friendly option is to take a government bus operated by the Andaman Transport Services. These depart from the bus terminus in Aberdeen Bazaar, Port Blair at various timings. The earliest bus leaves around 4:00 -4.30 AM, reaching Rangat in roughly 8-10 hours. Tickets can be purchased at the bus depot itself or online. Be prepared for a non-air conditioned journey with potential crowds, as these buses are a popular choice among locals.
Private Buses:For a more comfortable journey i.e. Anand Traveles While slightly more expensive than government options, they provide a more relaxed travel experience.
By Car:
Self-drive:Renting a car from Port Blair offers the most flexibility for your trip to Rangat. The scenic Andaman Trunk Road connects Port Blair to Rangat, with the journey taking approximately 6-7 hours. Self-driving allows you to stop at your own pace and take in the beautiful sights along the way, including the Jarawa tribal reserves on the west coasts (remember, strict rules govern interaction with the Jarawa).
Important Tips:
* Regardless of your chosen mode of transport, be prepared for a bumpy ride, as the road conditions may vary.
* Carry snacks and drinks for the journey, as options may be limited onboard or on the road.
* Public transport timings are subject to change, so confirm bus schedules before your trip, especially during the off-season.
* While private taxis are available, pre-booking one in advance is recommended, particularly during peak tourist season.
* Entry at Jirkatang Check post is mandatory.
* Photography and videography in the Jarawa Researve Forest area is strictly prohibited.
