HI Mark. This was definitely the most complex restoration I've attempted. I've probably done everything at one time or another but never on one vehicle from start to finish....and the vehicles were much simpler from a technology standpoint. Yes, I've just learned slowly through the years....no formal training. Thanks for the note.

Man - this series was awesome! I followed some of Doug’s videos after he got this vehicle because I also picked up a 94 LWB (Brooklands Green) that had been sitting in a driveway in AL for near 10 years. Life (mainly 2 small babies!) has kept me from doing much of anything with it but at least it’s been safe out of the weather for a couple years. This gives me inspiration to know that one of similar background/condition could turn out so great. I am admittedly no mechanic so getting it to even crank up was a little win. Did you ever have weird stuff with the alarm etc? I can only imagine truly how much needs to be fixed on ours so we will see, eventually.
@Paul355c3 жыл бұрын
Ethan, first, thanks for watching my series. I understand about life getting in the way. Congrats on your 94. That’s a great color. Ha! The damn alarm. Ghosts in the machine! What a mess. It seems that unless most of the vehicle’s electrical system is correct (good connections, good grounds, no shorts, etc), the alarm just wants to go off. It took me a while but I think I finally have it such that the alarm is happy about what it sees everywhere. I hope you find the time soon to work on yours and one of the best things you wrote was ‘out of the weather’. I’m a big believer of the importance of garaging. I’m happy to advise any time. Seriously. Just let me know if you’re tackling a particular system and need some advice. Have a nice holiday season.

Hi Michael. I actually kept the suspension that was on the black RRC when I got it. It was Old Man Emu shocks and Old Man Emu springs with a 1” lift. The tires were BFG All-Terrain and we’re about 1” taller than the stock size.

I don't think I've ever seen a car that looks so fabulous and so wrong at the same time. It a wonderful job, I'd have it in a heartbeat, but I can't help thinking not a single Range Rover left the Solihull factory in that era with paint you could see your face in. Put the original wheels on it and rub it over with a scotchbrite pad - job done!
@Paul355c3 жыл бұрын
Hi Spencer. I totally believe you about the comparison between this finish and that of a LR factory job from the early 1990’s. I think my motivation was mostly to learn bodywork and how does one achieve that type of finish. This was the first time I’ve ever done my own primer and block sanding and I just wanted to ‘go all the way’ to see what it actually takes to get there, in case I want to do it on another car in the future. Thanks for watching my video and I hope you have a great fall season.

Amazing job. On a scale of 1 to 10 how difficult was it to refit the rear 1/4 glass? Also where did you source your under bonnet decals? Im at the body stage of a restoration on a 95 but will be doing a color change from Alpine white to either Barritz Blue or Baltic Blue Metallic. Thank you for the content, its been great to watch. Blue skies!
@Paul355c Жыл бұрын
Hello! The rear quarter window was a 7 in difficulty. Some things that come to mind include lubricating the rubber surround to help the awkward install. Maybe use soap or silicone spray. It would also be extra work if you have to address rust in the rough opening. That would be a whole side project that you hadn’t planned for. I don’t remember the exact vendor of the stickers but I got them from eBay. Just search eBay on Range Rover Classic decals. I think the vendor was out of NY or NJ. Your restoration sounds great and you will love one of those blues!
@lear60man Жыл бұрын
@@Paul355c Thanks. Yea, Im a big fan of silicone spray at this point in Rover ownership. I may just have the body shop do the 1/4's as they will already be doing the front windshield. Thankfully mine was California car and rust free (as much as one could hope for.) Another customer at the interior shop paid $28k for a rusted out 95 softdash....crazy.

Nice job removing (and not replacing) the rub rails. I have a 1992 classic and when I overhaul the body I look forward to losing mine too. The older classics didn't have them and I think it looks better without them. Did you do a 2" lift on both the front and rear? or did you need to do a little extra in the rear...
@Paul355c3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching and thanks for the comment. You’ve got a great eye to notice the permanent removal of rub rails. Yes, I found them to be a little suburban / shopping center-minded. I like the clean look without. Regarding the lift, it was actually done by the previous owner and that’s the way I got the black vehicle. I think the guy told me it was a 2.5” lift with Old Man Emu shocks. I think it was a tuned kit but I don’t know if the rear required a slightly different spring height or not. I’m please with how smooth and comfortable the ride quality is with this setup. Again, thanks for your interest.

Interesting about the lettering. I took the measurements off of my donor vehicle which I thought was bone stock but maybe someone changed them before I owned it? It's clearly never been painted (the donor) so I'm just not sure.
@007ss0073 жыл бұрын
@@Paul355c If you manage to buy OEM lettering, they come with backing paper, which act like a template to put letters on right height. This is about the correct height in the picture: garagecaspers.nl/assets/galleries/611/rangerover_v8_garage_caspers (9).JPG
I see what you mean. It looks like I screwed up. My mistake was taking measurements from my donor which has a factory paintjob and no evidence that the letters were ever replaced. I just went out and checked and my donor definitely has letters lower than what you show. It appears you're right and I must just have some one-off situation with this donor. Bummer
