Congleton Service makes replacement stainless steel handles for anyone out there looking to replace their broken ones.

This is on the list of projects for both the '89 AND '91 builds. These door handles are so prone to failure. Always great to watch someone else do it prior to tackling a project. Especially with your cinematic and artistic touch.

I’ve seen a lot of car repair videos in my day (as you can imagine) and this was significantly more pleasant to watch than any traditional car video. Felt like I was watching a documentary. Great work!

Sean, thanks for the video - The SEO works well on your channel too. I'm going to take care of a rear left on my '93 with a Congleton replacement. FWIW, the Congleton handle is not precisely the same as the original. The radii at the corner curves are smaller and the handle face lacks the subtle outward convexity of the original. A small bit of filing can mitigate the difference!

Hey thanks Jim! Good to know. I haven't made any purchases from Congleton just yet. Most of the spare parts have been second hand from my local RRC community. Hope the job goes well!

@@WorkingAxle Took me about an hour, the 93 is easier to deal with. Please know that your videos are as much mood-enhancing inspiration as they are technical guides and help me get in the zone the way you film and author your content. I filed the corners just a tad, happy with the result and it definitely feels more solid than the original...Now onto the Center Console!

Such a compliment Jim! Having a camera around helps me settle into a good meditative space while tinkering, and your words make it all the more worth it. Cheers!@@defender11093

Great video! I was able to replace the handle without removing the whole unit, but your method looks much cleaner and precise.

I just redid all 4 door handles on my 91RRC. I took them all the way apart and the pin that holds the handle in place was oxidised. I put it in the chuck of my drill and spun it while using 320 sand paper to remove the bumps. Yours came out so much easier than mine did.
@WorkingAxle
@WorkingAxle 2 жыл бұрын
Oh man! Yeah I think I lucked out on this pin. It was definitely headed that way I’m sure.

Hey Sean, if you haven’t worked on the rear handles yet, those little clips that connect the handle to the latch linkage when you go to disconnect them will get lost in the door. The front doors you have a chance to find them, but the rears (because of the shape of the door around the wheel arch) the clips will find their way in between the door skin and frame and are gone forever, into another dimension 😂

HAH! Love this. Yeah Luckily I was able to retrieve the one I popped off. I wonder if the ones in the back materialize in another RRC's door in a parallel universe

Very under rated channel. Did you paint it blue? I came across your videos about 3 months ago.....now I have a soft dash consuming my time. At least I can watch how you tackled various projects.

Hey hey! Such a compliment. Thank you so much for your praise! The truck has always been a blue hue. Haven’t gotten the chance to paint it yet but that is definitely on the list! May have been the editing style in previous videos, I tend to desaturate some colors and it may have appeared more black. But nope, it’s always been Blue! So glad to hear you’ve joined the ranks of other like minded masochists! How’s the rust on yours?!?!

@@WorkingAxle No worries, one of my kids is a professional Editor so I get the hard work it takes to make a clean video. RE the RRC, It just fell into my lap while I was talking with a buddy on the West coast. He said he bought a 3 door and I said I was kinda looking for a soft dash. Turns out he had a soft dash that he needed to sell to make room for the 3 door. 24 hours later I wired him the funds. It had minor surface rust in a few areas. Like hit it with a Dremel tool, POR-15 and done. Nothing major. My upholstery trimmer is working on a 95 that the customer paid $25K for and it had hols in the floorboards, rear panels AND frame....It came from Chicago. So I got lucky with my California car. Its not perfect but im having a blast fixing small things and replacing the entire interior. Keep up the good work.

Ahh Not sure where you could pick one up new. Best option is to make friends with someone that might have an extra lying around. Or post on some forums looking for one. I paid about 50USD for an entire handle.

How's your cubby box, my 92 is falling apart, not sure why they would make the top part so thin around the switches - would love to see a more robust solution / fix for this.
