Marek is spot on - the average person that buys it new, doesn't really care about reliability. The ones that buy above their means suffer (2nd hand), but that's their choice. No one needs this vehicle, so whoever buys it deserves whatever comes to them, is how I see it.

That indeed is a very wide car. Parking feature doesn't solve main issue with parking a wide car, as I have found out after owning a slightly wider than average car: other cars and their drivers/passengers. They'll hit your car with their doors, scratch the hell out of paint when trying to fit between cars. My car has a few brand new scratches because of it. Some luxury cars solve it with bumper-like protection lines on sides, this car doesn't have it and flat design will only make scratches more visible. It really isn't built for shopping runs, at least not with small parking spaces in most EU countries. Awesome review, as usual!
@MarekDrivesENG2 жыл бұрын
Which sort of explains people's habit to park like an asshole taking up two spots diagonally. As long as parking rules aren't enforced of course.
@hedydd22 жыл бұрын
UK parking spaces built or modified from now on are going to be bigger. Not perhaps as big as American bays, as we see here at Costco stores, but significantly bigger in all dimensions than current. Only in multistory car parks do I have issues with parking bay width as a rule. Length is more often the issue with my vehicles.

Looks like you really enjoyed your time with this one, Marek. If I had to have a giant luxury SUV this would probably be my choice as well, but this generation seems to have lost some of it's old money charm and just feels a little bit vulgar compared to its predecessors to me. I'd also wait a for a facelift to see if they iron out some of the bugs you pointed out - given the price of one of these they would feel a bit more annoying.
@MarekDrivesENG2 жыл бұрын
Well, if you're looking for reliability, JLR may not be your cup of tea :) But these cars have style. They even break down in style.
@hedydd22 жыл бұрын
The thing is that the Range Rover, as in this video, has moved way upmarket into the luxury car sector. The true Range Rover Classic successors today are both the new Defender 110 and Discovery5, depending on your styling preference. They also offer the alternative of the Velar and Range Rover Sport on the ‘luxury’ side, under the price and more compact than this Range Rover. As for reliability, they have greatly improved over the years. I ran a 1988 Classic diesel RR for over 100,000 hard miles and it had very few faults and no breakdowns. Also has a 2004 with the BMW direct injection engine which was absolutely perfect from the day I bought it to the day it was sold at just under 40,000 miles. Ran a 110 Defender, the same one, from new and for 22 years of really hard slog. Again very reliable indeed and apart from one clutch very early in its life it was reliable [but awfully slow] until it finally completely wore out and was scrapped. Not a LR fanboy and recognise that as a company, they are dreadfully arrogant.

Since I do work my vehicles off-road and don’t do much more than 10,000 on-road miles a year, many of them towing up to 3.5 tons, I’ve ordered an Ineos Grenadier. Should be built in the next six to eight weeks they informed me yesterday. A commercial version, because I carry more goods than passengers, although this one does have four doors and five seats. The rear ones have reduced legroom apparently but I have not seen one yet.

@@MarekDrivesENG I’m fairly sure that I will take delivery, whether I like it or not. With inflation bound to hit 15% in the UK by next Spring and a long waiting list for this vehicle, I hope I won’t lose much if I decide to sell it after the first year. If I like it, I’ll keep it until it becomes unmanageable due to my advancing years. Hope to have fun and work with it for as long as possible.

I'm not sure whether they have color-coded door handles, or they paint the whole car with the door handles, but the press fleet person told me this paint is a real bitch, because if you scratch any panel, you have to respray the whole car, as they are unable to match this particular color.

@MarekDrivesENG2 жыл бұрын
I can't find the source right now. I suspect I asked the press fleet person about the weight limit, and this is what they have told me. 150 kg is what you typically find on tailgates in lesser cars, so maybe they remembered that. A weight limit of (let's use) 150 kg doesn't mean it will break at 151 kg, but it's a warranty threshold. If a carmaker can prove you overloaded the tailgate, your warranty will be void.

Ok I get it. Rap music while reviewing a HUGE Range Rover L460 V8. Materialism. The great rap philosophers have spoken to their people! Wonderful messages to their inner city black audiences who will probably deal drugs and shoot a lot of people to get their bling Range Rover. I have a violent internal reaction when I hear rap music because of this. Ok rant over. To this vehicle. The second "glove" box is not for gloves, it's for your guns.... sorry I know, I said rant over.... Come on Marek, people who own these cars don't park, they have people who park it for them or they just stop wherever they like. Same goes for the AC. They have people to set their AC for them at the shop. And people who drive this don't care if they hit something... they just drive away thinking, thank god they weren't the poor soul being hit.... was that a speed bump? Wait I think that was still kind of angry ranty. Ok, I'll say something nice, the exterior design proves that a design can be very attractive without going wild on a million lines going every which way. Less is more actually works here. Little details make this design a very attractive vehicle. Oh and great review!! Except for the rap. ;)

It is an odd time to be buying a big heavy and thirsty internal combustion powered long-lasting vehicle. These are likely to be the last of their type, certainly in Europe, due to full zero-emission vehicles being mandated by 2030 and probably universal by 2018, which is only six years away. Six years is nothing! The question being, will these petrol and diesel vehicles be viable and economic to run by then or soon after or will their resale value drop like a stone over the next few years due to exceptionally high running cost and possibly punitive taxation?
@rgamemathis70862 жыл бұрын
Petrol will be around.. gas stations not closing any time soon
@hedydd22 жыл бұрын
@@rgamemathis7086 As we approach 2030 they will become less busy and by 2035 their trade will have shrunk, along with their numbers, to a fraction of the current numbers. Oil refineries will also either be closed down or forced to increase their prices to remain viable. I suspect there will be near zero investment in refineries from now on and very few will survive 20 years from now over large swathes of the globe. Europe may become totally dependent on importing the small volume of refined fuel it will consume, mainly by farms and boats, by 2040.
