Give me physical buttons anyday. I can put the windscreen clearer on without taking my eyes off the road, I know the feel of the button. Touchscreen is just less reliable, gets smudged and is more difficult to use. I mean you could see the touch lag when he's using the screen it's pointless.

Thomas Hee No it's not the camera. When you see video reviews of smartphones is there any delay? Not compared to this car. Go and watch the in depth Infotainment video of this car and you'll see the screen and software are not as responsive as you'd like them to be, especially if you were using them while driving.

It will be the same story as when 16:9 screens came to the laptops. They killed of efficiency because of cutting costs and hinting that when watching a movie you don't get the black bars. Problem is, how often do you watch movies compare to actual work... Same thing in cars. It may look awesome, but functionality wise they suck. I'd love a hybrid solution with buttons for navigation, but large OLED screens for viewing stuff. They should also pull in Google Maps directly instead of wasting money creating something by themselves. Viewing the map can of course be touch as an extra gimmick.

The touch pad doesn't/didn't work when you swiped it because the actual circle and or ring is the part that's touch sensitive... counter or clockwise and the middle part is only a button. (It works great and is a sorta a party trick)

What Land Rover really need to work on is their anti-theft system. We know a couple people who've had their Range Rover stolen (and never found again). A friends' was found in a shipping container in Thailand. There have been a ton of Range Rover thefts where i live.

Yeah I agree the position of the screen for operating the heating controls is dangerous! Added to that the fact it is a screen means users will spend more time changing settings due to lack of tactile feedback.

I work at land rover and the menu screens (drivers dash) are used by moving your thumb around the circular thing on the steering wheel not up and down it :)

Great review Mat!!!!!.... as much as the Velar look seriously nice but the reliability of such a high tech car is seriously important as well. Can't imagine if the system blackout, I guess there is no way anyone can drive it. And Range Rover didn't fair too well in the reliability department.

I'll really want to own a range rover just once but I can't justify the cost. My Mercedes E class does all that and more and my defender is one of the best off road vehicles ever. I'd rather have one vehicle that did both but the GLE or GLS are the closest solutions. My friend's Range rover is just soo nice to drive.

The Velar simply looks fantastic in my eyes and I´m not the target group and I´m not particular found of SUV´s and I´m not from the UK. - It must be one of the best looking SUV´s on the market these days - I can not come to think about another luxury SUV that looks as clean, dynamic and having an absolutely great stance. The Jaguar F-pace is close, but lack the last parts for the elegance, details and streamlined composure.

I am NOT a fan of touchscreen interfaces which decrease driver safety. As with the redesigned Panamera, one needs to LOOK-and keep looking-at the interface to fiddle a setting, as opposed to the old school way of learning placement of a button or knob and henceforth safely making changes by feel while keeping one's eyes on the road. Radio presets and air/heating controls should have dedicated knobs & buttons.
