For max range keeping the assisted speed to 10/11mph and mid to low assistance level helps eek it out. Slower speed allows you to enjoy the ride more. Saddle soreness resolves quickly but you have to persevere with it. Frequent shorter rides to start with helps toughen things up without pushing the pain barrier to much. It's too easy to go out and do 20 miles and not get back on for a week or two due to the pain otherwise!
@EVPuzzle Жыл бұрын
Good advice thanks, problem is the bikes so quick in std and high modes you soon get to 16mph. Hopefully I'll adjust and have fun discovering what suits me best. Looking forward to more rides as soon as the wind dies down

At the age of 74 I got a Raleigh ebike on Bosch electrics but a similar style to your bike. I got it as a means building my leg muscle up before I have full knee replacement. You’ll find that rides up to and over 20 miles no problem. At the moment I’m doing between 20 to 25 miles every day and in the near future, a matter of a few days now I’ll get my new knee. Mind I think it was a bit naughty of the seller not having a fully charge bike for your first ride.

If you use the bike on a regular basis you might find that your battery range can increase. I live in a hilly area and I was using the higher levels of assistance but overtime as my strength and endurance built up I find that I’m using eco mode more and on hills where I was using sport or turbo I’m now using tour. A further plus is over a few months of regular use my weight has reduced from just over 16st to somewhere near 14 and half st. Mind to get that weight loss I’m riding for up to two hours at a time, mind being a retired old fart l’ve got plenty time to do that.
@EVPuzzle Жыл бұрын
I'm finding similar, eco is plenty most of the time as I'm getting fitter
@chrisbamborough222 Жыл бұрын
If you put it in Eco or the setting for low power and a gear where you find it easy to pedal (prob mid range) at a cadence of around 80 a min probably you will be doing about 10 to 12 mph. The eco uses less power coupled with a 80 cadence which puts less strain on the motor. At the moderate speed on a sunny day no wind and just the odd slope where you use higher power for a bit a whole battery will get you 120 miles. If you go for some hills and flat mixed your get 80 to100. However do not ever use the full battery like that. Charge between 30 to 80% range ie only using half the battery capacity and it will last much more time in years. Of course a now and then 100% charge is ok say every few weeks . You will get more mileage in warm weather less in cold as the battery doesn't like cold. In winter keep the battery indoors . After a ride wait half hour before charging to allow the worked battery to cool first. If your not riding for a few weeks store at 60% charge. The above is based on a pretty unfit guy using the same battery and bike. Above all have fun enjoy try some general off-road as well. The above is to kindly help with your new hobby. Cheers.

I'm testing the various modes on a test route to gauge efficiency a. Over 7 miles using std over eco used 2% more battery but saved 5 minutes riding time and avg speed picked up from 13 to 16mph, about to try 'high' mode Range showing 81 miles which is still huge 7 miles is using 10-11 % so far and a recharge is taking 0.1kwh

When riding rural roads you'll quickly learn that hedge cutting = thorns on the road = punctures. Both punctures I've had on my eBike in over 1000+ miles of riding have been shortly after passing a tractor which has been flailing a hedge back. ...Slow right down and scan the road in front like a hawk for thorns when going through an area with recently cut hedges. --- Can't believe they didn't even bother to charge the bike up for you knowing you'd be riding it home.
@EVPuzzle Жыл бұрын
I've learnt the hard way it seems Yes a few more % would've been nice but to be fair I think they expected me to cancel for the rain so not charged over night and I was busy having it configured. I Could've had another coffee and charged another hour but I chose to set off immediately... Without my helmet 🤦♂️

I've been riding bikes on and off for decades and still have my 90's MTB as a runabout on the flat-ish routes for grocery raids. When I got my present job five years ago, which is a mile away, up a hill straight from my door (shortest commute I've ever had too), I didn't fancy my chances to get there without some assistance. So I got myself an eBike, which helped a lot and the ride home was almost completely downhill, so lots of fun, until we all got sent to WFH in '19 that was :-(. I really aught to take it out for longer rides though, since I live in the middle of the Chilterns, there aren't many routes that could be considered at all flat.

Done that, got the T shirt but failed. I thought the same as you did, need the exercise get an ebike bought one on ebay could not ride it, all wrong first lesson go to an ebike shop try out various models get the right bike that fits you. Get the right saddle that fits you The ebike vender man knows what will fit you. Got the bike, off I went proud as Larry till I had to stop at a road junction. Put my foot down to steady myself. No foot fell over bang! Got on what happened? never mind back on off I went, stopped again Bang! fell over. First time not watching what I am doing, second time coincidence. Back on of we go again stopped again Bang! Third time is plain stupidity. Walked home pushing the bike. Next day went to the doctors who sent me off to Hospital, Loads of tests. Found a trapped nerve in my knee which is why when I put my feet on the floor after pedaling feels as I have no legs or leg which is why I fall over. Doctors advice Sell the ebike but keep the T shirt.

Some mucky roads up there across the border in Norfolk. If you are looking to get fit then the best way to use an e-bike is to use the lowest assistance mode you can manage. Save the higher levels for going up the hills. Making good use of the gears is also a good idea as a lot of people don't and rely on the electric motor (a bit like driving a car in town in 5th or 6th). Have only just found your channel, so off for browse. I made a video about my ebike and the accessories I've added kzbin.info/www/bejne/opK8gn95lsSsitk
