A quick vid demonstrating how much 35mm rangefinder gear you can fit into a Domke F-10 camera bag. Quite a bit, as it turns out. The F-10 doesn't seem to get much love, but it should, IMO.
One take!!

Answered my questions as well. I carry the same gear, maybe 2 M bodies w/lenses and 2 extra lenses or an SL body w/attached lens.

Being the one who asked the question of Mike (re: the Retro 5 vs F5XB), I must say this is exactly what I needed to see. Answered my questions perfectly. Thanks Mike - you have gone above and beyond....another informative production, please keep up the great work.

I bought one of these at B&H-in Canada they're twice the price. I love this bag. I think it's super well made, comfortable to carry and deceptively roomy. I wouldn't have known about it without your down to earth review.

Glad you're happy. I think the F-10 is one of Domke's most versatile bags. You can readjust the compartments in the F-5XB. It's also a good bag, but not quite as versatile as the F-10.

Howdy Mike. So went to BH tried all bags.. decided on this. Like I said having 2 bags one for work and for photog hobby makes life so easier. I really really liked the size of the f5x and had 3 compartments , not sure if u can readjust them like on the f10 But after trying in the store , like you pointed earlier , I hated how the zipper would not open all the way on the top, I realized this might potentially scratch my gear if im in a hurry to take them out and not think. So picked this.happy

Thanks for this review. I am interested in this F-10 and the F-8. They are about the same cost, but wondering if the F-8 would work even though it's slightly more compact. I think either should hold my Fuji X-Pro2 with lens mounted + 1 extra lens. I'm just checking to see if both would also hold my Fuji SP-2 Instax Printer which I like to carry with me sometimes. For not that much more $$, I'm slightly leaning towards the F-10 as the bag I might go with. I like the fact it has a carry handle on top which I prefer. Sometimes it's a bit fiddly or unwieldy to grab a bag up from just the shoulder straps and having a dedicated handle would make it a more secure to just grab and go.

Thanks much for pointing me at one of the few Domke bags that I haven't/don't own. One is enroute. What really grabbed me in your video was the back-to-back adapter. I cannot believe I haven't thought of this with all the adapters I use. Brilliant. Now the hard part ... where can we source these? I searched eBay as you suggested without any hits. I must be using the one search parameters. All help appreciated John

I’m not sure I could re-find one myself! However, I kind of accidentally hinted at an alternate solution in the video: if you take two rear lens caps and attach them back-to-back to each other with strong glue or double-sided tape, you basically have the device. The actual one I have might be the tiniest bit less bulky since it is designed for its specific purpose, but rear lens caps are a dime a dozen.

@@mike.thomas Mike, thanks for reaching out. I was considering the DIY approach (and I may yet give it a go) but I found that B&H stocks what the call a double lens mount cap from OpTech. I figured they should be rewarded for stocking such an obscure part so I order one. None of this would have ever occurred to me without you video. Thanks for that

@@w98abee Cool! I hope you enjoy the F-10. It’s one of the few bags I’ve kept since the days of this video. I still have it, the Retro 7, and the Billingham F-Stop f/1.4. You have to experiment to find what works for you.

@@mike.thomas I agree completely. As a bagaholic, I have way too many but I will unload nmost of them soon. We will be relocating and downsizing soon and I have about a half-dozen bags that get used regularly and have thereby earned a position in the collection. When I started dablling in photography in the early 80's I was smart or lucky enough to grab a Billingham bag that still gets used. I do not recall the model number but the factory claims it is a 550 and who am I to argue. I use a ThinkTank Airport Ultralight to transport what I think I will need but not for daily carry. I love my Domke F2 and 803 but lately I've been evolving toward Sling bags in the nominal 10L range. Mindshift is emerging as a preference. If I'd been smarter I would have stopped buying bags with the Billingham 40-years ago.

I'm a big Domke fan. I currently own all the F-5X models, two F-8 and an F-6 bag. The F-5 bags are nice and compact, but I dislike the zippers and too-thick padding. The F-8 is too small, and the F-6 too big for my kit. I thought the F-10 would be ideal. I don't understand why the bottom is tapered and rounded. It doesn't sit right and falls over. I sent mine back for this reason. Otherwise this would be the perfect bag for my usual kit.

Chris Platt yeah, it’s an interesting design choice. I wonder what their design process is. That said, it’s not been an issue for my specific setups.

Hi Mike what do you think of the Sekonic L398 ? Primarily for Streetphotography? Thanks
@mike.thomas
@mike.thomas 7 жыл бұрын
Should be great. I used an L-208 for a few years, and it's less sophisticated than the one you mention (and cheaper). Basically any incident meter is a pretty decent way to go when shooting street (IMO). Take a reading on the bright side of the street and another on the shady side of the stree and just switch between those EVs as you move from one condition to the other.

@mike.thomas

I have two: a Sekonic L-208, incident/reflective type, and a Minolta IV-F incident meter for which I'm missing the spot attachment. The Sekonic is small, light, and cheap-feeling, but is a good bargain and never let me down. The Minolta is much more sophisticated, but larger and heavier. I bought it on impulse. I need that spot attachment to make it worth the trouble, though.

Mike how deep is this nag could I fit a 9 inch water bottle?
@mike.thomas
@mike.thomas 8 жыл бұрын
+splootan It's only about 6.5-7" deep/tall measured in the center. However, depending upon your tolerance for a sloppy bag, you could probably have a 9" bottle in there, just not very securely since the flap would not close so well.
