I used to sing this song to myself on guard duty in the Army, although not nearly as well as you and Joan Baez sing it. Of the two surviving films of Woody Guthrie singing, one of them has him singing it back in 1945 when Jack Kirby the artist who created Captain America was a scout with Patton's Third Army which is one of the places where my mind usually wanders when I hear it.
