There are several upgrade kits available for these 212cc Predator engines. Each stage adds additional horsepower and top speed. These are used mostly in go carts and mini bikes. This Ford Ranger is a creative application. First I've seen that.

Not many old gear heads like him left out there, my father in law was that way. I remember he owned 2 of the Chevy Luv pickups one of which he and a friend installed a v-8 from a 68 corvette and the other he converted it from regular fuel to LP gas, and I was fortunate enough to be a part of that build. There’s still a few people like that left out there and the idea’s may sound impossible, crazy or whatever, but the knowledge is priceless.

@Bronco Belligerence like I said above, great for a beginner behind the wheel. A kid hanging out with Grandpa driving thru the Pasture to check the Cows and Bulls. It's not designed to run low 5's at the Drag Strip or qualify for the Daytona 500. It's simply an affordable conversion that could be installed in almost any vehicle and be fuel efficient. Could change up the gear ratio by experimenting with different sized sprockets for desired speeds. Me personally, I would build it as an off-road vehicle only. Basically a Farm Truck that can take a Beating while Trail Riding, Creek Crossing for Deer Recovery, Etc. Nothing Extreme. A Large high toothed sprocket for low end Grunt would be perfect. Fixing up an older vehicle would be alot cheaper than a fully enclosed UTV or SxS. I grew up Raising Hell in the Country, so there's plenty of places a kid could go on Go-Carts and Mini Bikes. But this would have changed the game up. It doesn't take much upgrading to unleash the potential of small engines. It really comes down to a Person's Imagination, Mechanical Experience, and Budget. Some Guy's in my area actually use this set-up in their Custom Built Rock Crawlers.
@BlueOvals24
@BlueOvals24 2 жыл бұрын
@@ThrelkeldOutdoors A gravel road doesn't count as a rock crawl, and a gravel road is about all you'll be doing with less than 10hp. I'm all for small engines, that's why I like SXS, and one of those would be far better than a Ranger with one cylinder. The problem with this build is how much that truck frame weighs compared to a purpose build SXS. And I never said this thing should be fast, a stock 2.3 is about the slowest thing you could get on the road, yet it's still a better option than this. And for teaching someone to drive, there should be some power involved. Obviously don't throw a new driver into a GT500. But a modest 100hp is enough to teach them all aspects of driving, including throttle control. They'll never learn throttle control with 6.5hp because that's not enough power to even get the wheels to chirp. They'll drive around with this thing pinned, then have no idea how to control the throttle when they get something with even modest power. Engines like these belong in go carts and entry level SXS and this video proves that.

Great Rolls Canardly, rolls down one hill and can ardly make it up the next, I did something like this some years ago with an old Morris and included a concrete flywheel for momentum

Just goes to show you don't need a truck with 38" tires and a 300 hp engine. A truly affordable to own vehicle that only sips gas. :) Absolutely love it. Plenty of room to work on it. I think I would have added a padded fold down seat under the hood so I had somewhere to sit if I needed to tinker with the engine..... a luxury upgrade. :)

@NotQuiteJosh sounds like what some people do to their cars..... obnoxiously loud, but to each their own. I've never understood the point of taking an underpowered OEM truck and destroying the exhaust system so it sounds like a lawnmower....... at least with this truck it's a lawnmower engine. lol.

The flat plywood bed and of course the engine, reminds me of early day Polaris rangers or the John deer gators. This would be perfect for a farm to get around on and check your fence and stuff.

Very ingenious build, it seems to run pretty well. Might the engine have shut off due to the low oil sensor malfunctioning? I only ask because I have heard it is a common problem with Predator engines. Otherwise, very nice fabrication.
