Most of the Top-6 have NTC and NMC anyway, so hard to do anything, but being bottom-5 defensively 5 on 5 isn't a recipe for success. Igor and Quick can only do so much.

I remember Craig Ludwig was known for shot blocking. But HNIC actually did a segment between periods in the 90s showing that he had special padding for his hips and legs and when he blocked a shot, he’d try to have to puck hit the padding.

When I was a D-man, I used a fair bit of supplemental protection, including using the chest part of a goalie's Chest/Arm with player shoulder and bicep protection. Of course when my foot was shattered by a shot, I re-evaluated what I was doing and became a goalie 🤣

The main problem for the Rangers is just a lack of effort from the Vets. Its very obvious from how they are playing that they are either just aging out, or they don't care. Seeing a Kreider trade would be somewhat sad, but at the same time I think we have people to slot into the top 6 to replace him and if him getting moved allows us to get more center depth I would prefer that as we don't have a 1C at all right now. Ideally I'd like to see Zbad Lindgren Trouba and Miller moved, They all suck, though the likelihood of that happening is pretty low. I was thinking about it last night and if Pittsburgh is going into a rebuild maybe, I know its very unlikely and has a 99.9% chance of not happening, but getting Crosby as a 1C in trade for some prospects and picks and or maybe some of the guys I mentioned before. Hes got at least another 1 or 2 seasons and honestly, with how the core is aging and the contracts we have I don't think we will be very competitive after Crosby's contract would be done. For an example, Most of the Rangers vets right now are between 30 and 33 years old. If they don't have Ovechkin style longevity it looks grim with their contracts. Also from what we've seen so far, Trouba Kreider and Zbad CERTAINLY do not have that kind of longevity. Also Panarin is 33. Sure he's the best player on the team but that doesn't make him any younger. To wrap back to the Crosby thing, If he wanted another shot at the cup, It would be better to be on the Rangers than the Penguins and also he seems a bit frustrated with their play right now so it might feed into it a little bit. Penguin for life maybe but we've seen crazier things happen than someone wanting another shot at a cup and, unless hell freezes over I don't see the Penguins giving that to him. Though I think its more likely that he just sits on the Penguins till his career is over. From a Rangers perspective though, It would be a huge addition to have 1C like him. Not because he's Crosby it could be other people as well, but because its such a massive hole we need to have filled if we want to get to the next step if that's even possible with this core. Again, to me his age wouldnt be a concern though because the team is either basically below 25 or over 31.

Zibanejad is the issue. Been an issue for two season now. Kreidrr DTD with an injury. Hopefully nothing serious. No need to trade him or anyone else on that team. Just Zib.

Zibs is basically as untradeable as Trouba is with his contract. Kreider's best days are probably behind him but if the Rangers wait another year to move him, they wouldn't be able to get anything in return. Trading him now you might possibly get a younger centerman with some upside.

When it comes to blocking shots, there is a multi-faceted risk/reward. A shot is blocked but is the player seriously injured? Is the player twinged to where he is immobile, out on the ice for a minute or so? So, blocking shots is kind of a 50/50 proposition. It reminds me a little of playing the outfield in baseball, running blindly towards the fence, looking back at a fly ball. Is there a point where you play safe and play it off the fence?

Its unfortunate when you dig yourself a hole with terrible contracts like they did with Zibs and Trouba, you might have to trade a piece that you otherwise might've kept. And now they might be looking at their current cap and thinking signing Igor might not be as easy as they once thought. They have some $$ coming off the books after this year, but in turn those players wont be there too.

The Rangers need a shakeup, they’ve become stale and Florida gave everybody the book on them. They don’t advance the puck well enough and are too slow, which starts with the regression of the blue-liners not being able to win puck battles and get it out of the zone effectively. I don’t think they’re as bad as they’ve looked in the past two weeks, but the big weakness they’ve had seems like it’s under a spotlight against good teams right now. They need find some more speed, both skating and decision making. Whether that comes from the current group or a transaction, I don’t know

I would be upset to see Kreider not play his whole career with the rangers. You can lower his ice time if necessary, or take him off PP1 for Laf to get some time, but I hope he doesn’t leave. It would be absolutely shocking to see either Kreider or Trouba leave the Rangers at this point. They already unsuccessfully tried to off load Trouba in the off season; they would be unlikely to get anything more valuable for the team than Kreider is already. Right now, the big issues for the Rangers is players not playing a 200 foot game which undermines their defense.

The Rangers problems aren't Krieder... 1. They handed out NMC like candy to players that were either un-proven (Trouba) or already kinda old (Mika - 8 Years of NMC until he is 38!? LOL). 2. They sent out that embarrassing "letter" about going into a rebuild but completely jumped ship once Panarin forced his way onto the team. 3. Their front office can't draft to save their lives... Laf is the only player worth anything that has been drafted since Igor was in 2014. Most other teams have players currently playing that were LATE draft picks (Bratt - NJD | Lee - NYI | Saros - NAS) but the only late round draft picks that played any NHL game for the Rangers was Fast who they traded away. They have so little homegrown talent... 5. They rely on goaltending to bail them out and it hides the problems on the team... and no one in management has noticed.

Rangers have been playing counter hockey last few seasons even with different coaches. Then you dont have puck control, need to defend too much on your own end and you need always your powerplay or goalie to rescue. That might be the biggest reason why defense looks so bad sometimes. Maybe with one better puck moving defenseman and center who can play with puck, Rangers could find better balance for their game and their defense looked also much better.

For the Rangers I would move Ryan Lindgren & K'Andre Miller. We tried to move Trouba in the off season, but it looks like we're stuck with him. Lindgren is about as effective as a traffic cone. Miller has moments of brilliance, but he's not consistent. I would love it if they could somehow swing a trade for David Savard, Marcus Pettersson, or Rasmus Andersson. I can dream, right?

huge NYR fan. I think the move makes sense. Their 5v5 especially the kreider zib combo has been terrible. 7.25 cap hit for 3 more years... get out of this before it is too late. I think you could get a Team like Boston to over-pay for Kreider. Include a third team for salary retention. Maybe Drury can call up his old buddy in SJ and see if they will take 25-33% of kreiders remaining salary for a 3rd round pick and maybe a prospect. Kreider goes to Boston.

@TheHockeyGuy Shannon, I have not seen your latest power rankings video yet, but if you dropped the Rangers down a significant amount, it is well deserved. The above-average goaltending can only mask the team's fundamental problems for just so long. And when either Igor or Quick do not provide their best, the Rangers get lit up. And we saw that even more so with their loss to the Oilers. Had the goaltending been average, we would be talking about a lottery bound team here. This is how glaring their issues really are. Not a single player on that roster should be untouchable. Not one. And.I mean this. If Chris Kreider needs to go, trade him. If Mika Zibanejad still has any value, Chris Drury needs to consider that. Kaapo Kakko should have already been sent packing. Jacob Trouba needs to go because he is not helping this team. Reilly Smith should be packaged in any deal. If Vincent Trocheck fetches interest and a first rounder at the very least is offered, he should be moved. If Igor does not sign an extension soon, Drury needs to consider trading him as well. People can say Rangers fans like me are nuts to consider even blowing up this roster right before Thanksgiving and a 12-7 record, but the writing has been on the wall for some time. They are not winning anything anytime soon and if yet another rebuild is inevitable, might as well start early and not wait for the trade deadline when the team's options vanish. And furthermore, if the Rangers lose tonight to the struggling Blues, what additional proof do you need?
