This recent stretch for the Devils was a huge test to see where they stacked up against the NHL’s better teams. FLA x2, TB, CAR, and WSH with them coming out of it 4-1 was a major success if you ask any Devils fan. Really instilled confidence in the fanbase about what this team could accomplish this year.

Upstate NY Sabres fan myself... as happy that I am about where we stand right now, I still hold my reservations. Games like we had vs. the Habs, Flyers, Wings, and even the Islanders considering how injured they were when we played them... those kind of games have me questioning the team's CONSISTENCY. They play down to their opponents far too often. It should have never even taken OT against the Ducks. I am delighted to see that our goaltending has finally found its footing though. Until we start beating some good teams and we see consistency without playing down to bad teams though I think we should all tamper expectations before we get let down for the 14th season in a row.

I think the power rankings are a mix of where a team is in the standings, their performance in the current week while also considering the strength of their opponents, how they won/lost those games/the deserve-to-win-o-meter. Same. Bobrovsky started last season being quite shaky too, and he grew into the playoff menace that we knew in 2024. However, I am not that confident in Spencer Knight. It honestly feels that he's not confident in himself to catch those silly rebounds. He has moments of brilliance, but otherwise he is very mid. The defense on the other hand is ATROCIOUS. Either Zito didn't cook and we were blinded by the cup win, or they're actual bums who can't do anything. Ekblad continues to be a major bum, beaten-up beyond repair. Balinskis... every time I hear "Balinskis took the puck", my heart starts racing, because there is a HUGE chance he'll turn it over. The only ones that save themselves are Adam Boqvist, Forsling and Schmidt (sometimes)

NSH fan here. We absolutely should be optimistic! Shooting percentage is abysmal, Saros is keeping us in games early which isn’t historically usual. I.e. regress to the mean w shooting and we’re back in the thick of things. I just have faith in Brunette as a coach personally after watching what he did last year. I think we can find a way to play above the puck on the backcheck better to have better possession numbers and take away time and space, establish better chemistry such that we’re establishing our forecheck, and make it so we’re being pests in the o zone. We did this well against Winnipeg last night and kept it more simple cause it’s been a struggle at home so far. We are, in spurts, playing above the puck better on defense and letting it feed the counterattack. Bruno didn’t accomplish what we did last year without a certain commitment to defense; what I saw change most in Forsberg’s game last year once playing w O’Reilly was stronger backchecking. Still have so much synergy and connectivity left out there on the ice. A little confused by giving up on Fabbro and ‘being in the market’ for a top 4 defenseman. Filing that one next to Tolvanen and Ingram 😭
