Just catching the pod Alex and I really do relate to your sentiments. Saw my first game in the late 1950s with my dad. He was HLI retired and loads of his old comrades sat around us in the main stand. They were The D Day Dodgers and it was much later in life that I finally understood why they wore that nick name with such absolute pride . A fitting day to play The Hearts a club like us who are rightly proud of our Heritage.

Thank you so much for sharing this with us Tommy. Absolutely beautiful and you must share in that pride. I've been to Italy on holiday and for the football - and could only do so because of men like your father and his friends who gave that country back to the Italians as much as they saved ours from the Nazis. We owe them so much and, like you say, it's nice that Hearts also have a respect for that bravery. Was your father ever stationed at Maryhill? I only ask because when I'm along that way I always notice the wall that remains of the old barracks.

Alex, my name is Tommy Smith, I’m posting on my wife’s account 🙃 my Dad was in the TA, a whole group of them worked together at Dickson Blazes Ironworks at Polmadie. They were all called up in the summer of 39 and not demobbed fully until 46, he was a third Lanark Man but loved The Rangers, myself and 5 brothers were / are fanatical Gers fans. He was indeed stationed at Maryhill.

@@cathysmith9c 😆😆 Brilliant, Tommy - I sorted your name on my first reply with a quick edit but pass my apologies onto your better half as she's about to get a whole lot of boring Rangers pods recommended to her on her phone!😆That's fascinating about your father, though. Hard enough to be working in an ironworks in the 30s, never mind being taken from that to the heart of war for the best part of six years. And the Hi-His too - a club I never saw play. Gone just a couple of years before I was born. Glad he passed the best team onto you and your brothers though. Aye you can still see the size of the old barracks in that boundary wall at Maryhill today. Colossal. Hardy hardy boys in those days.

Amazing pod. Love, life, chocolate, politics, football. In that order. Don’t agree with you on everything but I love that have the freedom to express our opinions. So love to everyone that has given up their lives defending our civil rights and freedoms. I’m not sure any “state media” in the world would have room for the fat eck show, so I’m glad we don’t live under a dictatorship. Congrats on the win. You called it. Any win will do. I’m not sure a change of manager is what rangers need right now. He was actually a little hard done by in his first season. He was on the brink of pulling off an amazing job. You could have easily won the treble. During a rebuild with a financial disadvantage.

Fantastic 49 mins of madness once again Sir! Classy respectful Remembrance tributes is not for everyone- but my goodness our club does it so well each year! Whilst hugely disappointing and scandalously overpriced the Cadbury’s 55 Champions Bar provided me a crazy superstitious ‘boost’ at the time - didn’t even have 55 on the wrapper🤬🤬 My youngest son always has a spare £1 coin looked out on match day for a bag of blue Bon Bon’s off the lovely wee wifey in the wheelchair! 💙💙 Good Luck scheduling in the Pie and remember not to get marooned after the game - Subway shuts at 8! 😂😂
@FatEck19992 ай бұрын
@@andyhillis7158 😆😆 brilliant, Andy. Should be taking the car tonight (will reverse up to the bon bon trestle table, chuck open the boot and shout "fill her up with blue, please!" Top recommendation!👍) but - aye - at least the Subway's giving everyone a fighting chance this time. Also now gagging for a Boost.😍 Despite their clerical error, a Champions bar sounds just the job too💪💙I could only find cans of same, by McEwans, during 2020-21. Thanks so much for giving it your precious again, sir - always appreciated. Hope your youngest enjoys his cargo today, while I'm multiplying everything by pie🍻👌🫡

Was just thinking that at approx. 3.14 Pi is the same number of chances that Dessers needs to score per game in order for us to get him transferred out the club! 🤣🤣🤣 Difficult not to love the big man! There would be less pressure on him if others started to contribute with a few goals - particularly from our midfield.🤞🤞🤞

Love listening to Yir patter here in Fremantle Western Australia Alec😀
@FatEck19992 ай бұрын
Brilliant, John - thanks for watching and thanks so much for letting me know: We chatted on Gersnet too, aye? Fremantle is a location that sticks even in my brain. I'm old enough to not be embarrassed to say it out loud: The internet is a hell of a thing. Still get a buzz when someone from Edinburgh or Dunfermline says they're watching. But Spain, the States - Fremantle - that's kinda nuts still to an old codger like me. Hope the weather's lovely, sir.

Lest we forget the like of Big Davy and his generation, their sacrifice enables the freedoms we all enjoy today. Always had respect for Hearts in how they cherish their affinity to Service of our Nation with the remembrance of McCreas Battalion, so it is fitting that todays game pitches these 2 teams together. When the whistle goes however, i want Rangers to "go over the top" of Hearts and destroy their resistance, limit Shankland to damp-squibs and please let our Advanced Positions receive the proper ammunition to deliver resounding blows on the opposition! For One grateful appreciation of those of Big Davys ilk. 4-1 Rangers, lead the way.
@FatEck19992 ай бұрын
@finlaycameron8730 I'd take that, Finlay. A wee 4-1 would do just fine. Hold this front and I'd say we'll be eating sausages in Berlin by Christmas... but the group stage goes on til January and I don't think Hertha, Union or Dynamo are in it this season anyway. But - aye - don't want the winter slowing our offensive: we want it bogging down the enemy. I remember Raith Rovers putting us out the Scottish Cup in their Scots Guards away kit. Players from Raith, Killie, Falkirk and Dunfermline also in McCrae's Battalion I think and plenty Celtic players served too. Christ, let's be honest, in the world wars, everyone served. Terrifying. Hope it never happens again.

Yeh, yesterday was a strange day for watching football on tv. In the absence of a Premier League game at lunchtime, I watched Middlesbrough v Luton which I am invested in. I watched bits of Brighton v Man City and Liverpool v Aston Villa as it matters for the Premier League.

I thought the win over Motherwell was an important one as kind of retaliation for Motherwell/ Kettlewell derailing Rangers' title bid in 2023-24 season. I think such an attitude shows that I am also 'angry.'
@FatEck19992 ай бұрын
@@nickwebb5078 Oh, aye. Definitely. I'm self-diagnosing on the anger front, Nick. I definitely rage all the time too. And revenge is the best possible expression of it, in a football sense. Though, just to be annoying, I only blamed us for that defeat last season and actually found myself quite admiring Kettlewell and his men that day... except that prick Dan Casey who got away with putting wee Ross McCausland out that game with a horrific "tackle" so it was nice to see his tears last Sunday.

saw "Surreal Dessers" mentioned on some online Rangers social media post tonight and thought ... oh aye? that's my patter, from a bygone Fat Eck pod! Anyway, that aside, I'm not fussy. Any win against the Jambos will do. Tynecastle being my least favourite stadium to visit as an away supporter. (aye I know it's a home game) As a, yes, I Googled this aside ...KitKat chocolate bar with a wafer interior, available in blue wrappers exclusively in Japan ... which is ironic when you look at the Celtic team sheet.
@FatEck19992 ай бұрын
Plagiarising bassahs, IamNoone. You deserve a byline for Surreal Dessers. Perfect nickname for our star striker. And top research on the staunch chocolate front, even if the results are even more confusing. Blue also the colour of the Nippon national team shirt. I'll just have to eat my way through more brands til we get a result. Literally.
